From the minute I walked in the door I was greeted by one of their hostesses and as we squeezed our way through your packed bar I have to say I was worried that I might have booked the wrong place for my work's xmas party.

However, when I saw the wonderful area that had been roped off and set aside for myself and my 39 colleagues I could not have been happier. It was such a treat to be able to have our own reserved space in the craziness of the xmas party crowd.

I was then introduced to Hayley Kite our waitress for the evening. What a bubbly/smiling girl she was. She was an absolute star. She worked so very hard and remembered all my complicated drinks orders - FYI I was the only one that could order drinks for our group which went onto our tab. Hayley therefore had to deal with very large orders but never wrote them down and despite the bar being extremely busy she kept the drinks coming and her wonderful sunny nature was like a breath of fresh air. In fact I would go as far as to say that she was responsible for the success of our xmas party as absolutely nothing was too much effort for her.

I had pre-ordered the premium fork buffet which arrived promptly at 7.00 pm as requested and I think everyone was blown away by the quality and quantity of the buffet. They all raved about it. I had a little taste of everything and it was all delicious.

It was also fantastic that you had your own DJ and allowed those that wanted to dance to be able to do so. We normally have a hard core that has to go off to a nightclub which means a trek and standing in queues etc. So it was wonderful that everything was under the one roof and our group stayed together until the very end.

I would not hesitate to book the Gable again for this year's staff party as you gave us everything that we were looking for and in fact I would go as far to say the Gable and your staff far exceeded my expectations.

We had our work Christmas Party at the Gable...

Naturally we were all in a VERY bad way the next morning. Signs of a good time tho!

The staff were very helpful in organising and making it Happy Christmas!

I'm not sure if it's just me? but isn't the main point of a visit to a pub in england to grab a nice pint/cocktail and speak with interacting, chatty, bubbly, english staff? places like this are so annoying I must say. They clearly employ staff on their looks and not there personality as they are all very pretty but very boring, rude, and unsociable.

Owners/Managers need to know it isn't all about the looks, this puts alot of people off and too many city bars are doing this.

Wont be returning.

What happened to great english pubs and staff? it's sad :-(

I have been to the Gable on a few occasions in the last few months. Each time the food has been sublime, service friendly and polite and cost reasonable. I often work in that area alone and need somewhere to stop for lunch, it has a good atmosphere and is one of those places you feel comfortable in alone, although it would be great with a crowd too. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Thieves operate in The Gable! I went to The Gable for a drink after work and had my jacket stolen. It had wallet and phone etc in it. What really annoyed me was I was sat directly under a cctv camera. I asked the bar manager if they could look over the footage. They said they didn't have time and couldn't help! Clearly the camera's are there purely for their benefit. I asked if I could have the number of the police station and the manager huffed, walked away talking over her shoulder saying, I'll see what I can do. Rude. Very rude. Never going back.

Maybe you should not get so drunk that you leave your jacket on the floor...

Having worked in the City for a number of years, this is the first time I have been to The Gable. There were 3 of us for lunch with an hour to spare. The bottle of wine we ordered came very quickly, but the food we had to wait 35-40 mins for, which by City standards is not good enough. We complained about 3 times and eventually I went to speak to the manager who said food would arrive in 5 mins - it took at least an extra 10 and there was no "sorry for keeping you waiting" or "can I offer you a glass of wine on the house". The customer service was actually non existent. When the food did come, it was actually very good, but is let down by the waiting staff that seem to be not bothered by the views of the customer and we had to ask to receive any compensation which they reluctantly gave. All 3 of us wont be going there again and we all work for 3 big organisations.

Perhaps is you all worked for just one organisation each you would have more time for lunch.

I think the Gable is fab. I work nearby and went there for a drink last week. The atmosphere was great, a really friendly, party vibe. The staff were very attentive and we had a big board of mixed food that was delicious. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Worse experience ever!!! Do not go to this place if you have the slightest requirement for style! This is not a bar. Its a pretty shaby pub. The waiters are rude and boring. The cocktails are aweful, the food is foul. I was there in March 2008 for a date and we were looking to have a few drinks and eat something small. The place had a few good reviews but I have never been to worse place in London. Fortunately my date was a great sport and we still had fun despite people next to our table singing and screaming as they got absolutely hammered.

I've been to The Gable twice, once for quiet drinks and once for birthday drinks. The ability to book an area for free was great for the birthday. Both nights at The Gable were good. It has a nice chilled atmosphere and a great wine list.

The Gables is a little gem of a find in the city. Although the location is the heart of the city, the service and atmosphere is that of a local. Every aspect of the service at The Gables comes with a good dose of hospitality not usually akin to city gastro bars.

The impression that remains is that the food was above par, and the service was perfectly attentive but never intrusive.
