The ViewLondon Review
The Globe Bar is a stylish cocktail bar that can be found within the Moran Hotel, Chiswick.
The Venue
Boasting one of the longest bars in London, stretching around fifteen metres in total, it’s easy to find a spot to order. The bar is set on one side of the room, lined with stained oak blocks, small rectangular mirrors and widescreen TVs. The room is softly lit, with restrained lamps tucked away in the corners of the room and dim lights along the ceiling. Mismatched furniture fills the Globe Bar - from black wooden chairs to burnt orange leather sofas and mid-century armchairs. There is also an outdoor terrace for those wanting to catch some fresh air or enjoy warmer weather.
The Atmosphere
The staff here are witty and more than helpful. There is a great buzz in the Globe Bar, which attracts a sophisticated crowd, ranging from hotel guests to colleagues having after-work drinks and, unusually for a hotel bar in the suburbs, locals. This venue is also the drinking spot of choice for many rugby players, who often make the Moran Hotel their home whilst playing rugby fixtures in Twickenham. Major sporting events are also shown on their many widescreen TVs, and, at weekends, the atmosphere is amped up with a DJ playing chart music.
The Food
A bar menu is available and food is served from 10am-11.30pm. Tempting colourful food platters seamlessly dart around the room, feeding the peckish crowd. Platters to share come in the variety of meat, seafood or vegetarian, and cost £13.50. The menu is fairly priced with a range of sandwiches served with nachos starting from £6.
The Drink
They serve a selection of reasonably priced drinks, offering a wide range of wines, cocktails and beers, with many taps at the bar. A bottle of Chilean cabernet sauvignon costs £16, and a pint of Fosters comes in at £3.65, one of the 25 beers they serve on draught and in bottles.
In addition, there’s a long list of refreshing cocktails. For fruity concoctions, a good recommendation is the fresh passion cocktail (£7.50), consisting of vodka, apple juice and passion fruit, served in a tall glass filled with crushed iced and sprigs of mint. For £9, those who like a kick to their drink are onto a winner with the champagne cocktail, the French kiss, a combination of champagne, raspberries and ginger beer, sweetened with apricot brandy. The best of France meets Dublin’s finest in another of the champagne cocktails, Black Velvet (£7.50), which adds Guinness into the mix.
The Last Word
Even if you’re not a resident of the hotel, with its fabulous cocktails and charming staff, the Globe Bar offers a great place for west Londoners to enjoy a few drinks and it’s a particularly good starting point if you’re visiting the hotel’s restaurant, Napa.
