I have to echo the last review. I've been an occasional visitor to the Goldhawk (usually midweek lunchtimes) over the last 5 years and it's frustratingly erratic, but has definitley hit an all time low.
The food varies from good to terrible, that's if you're lucky enough that the chef has turned up, and if they've had the deliveries from the butcher.
I'd say about 1 in 3 attempts end with either the 'chef' (their description not mine) hasn't arrived yet (unbelievably the chef isn't even scheduled to arrive until 1pm) or they have virtually no food available due to late delivery. If they had a brain cell between them they'd consider switching suppliers.
Every now and again you give it another go, have a good experience, only for it to go drastically down hill within a week or two.
Nice bar/decor etc and has potential - just horrendously managed mid week. Lots of pubs are struggling at the moment - this one deserves what it gets.
Such a shame to see what used to be a great pub go down hill!
We have been frequent visitors to the Goldhawk, particularly for their great vegetarian Sunday roast and chilled out friendly staff.
Went yesterday for the first time in a couple of months and will not be returning again.
Staff have changed and they all looked miserable and like they couldn't give a toss. Was told there had been 4 changes in management in the last 6 months - it shows!
The menu has been totally changed for the worse, half of our order ended up being refunded with a casual and insincere apology as the soup was cold, other items were not as described on the menu and there was a big thick black hair in my pie - after waiting 10 minutes for the replacement pie I was told that they had run out of them so I ended up going hungry while the rest of my party finished their meals and swiftly moved on the The Stinging Nettle down the road which was much better!
The Goldhawk is a great pub that ticks almost all my boxes. Good ambience, nice interior, decent wine list, decent food and nice clientele. The only thing is missing is a good beer garden but I prefer it in the winter when it's cold outside and the pub is all warm.
The Goldhawk food is somewhere between standard pub fare and gastropub and doesn't disappoint as long as you are not after a gastronomic masterpiece. This is definitely one of the top pubs in the area.
The Goldhawk is a wicked pub. I'd definitely recommend you try the Goldhawk Sleemans, it's nectar!
The Goldhawk is a lovely funky pub with a fairly young crowd. It's my favourite place to be on a Sunday, hungover and depressed that the weekend is nearly over. The Goldhawk always manages to put a smile on my face.
