The ViewLondon Review
The Good Mixer is a pub teeming with Camdenites and it's no wonder given the fact that Amy Winehouse, Blur and Oasis have all been known to drink here.
The Venue
Located on the corner of Inverness Street, the Good Mixer has an ideal location. On the weekends, little market stalls surround the outside of the pub and it’s handily located a short 5 minute walk from Camden tube station. It certainly benefits from passing trade as a result.
The exterior is plain black and unassuming. Heading inside, you'll find that not much thought has gone into the interior either as the pub relies heavily on its shabby chic charm. When a pub attracts punters like Amy Winehouse, Blur and Oasis, the decor is rather unimportant. That said, there are pool tables here to keep punters entertained.
There are little tables and chairs dotted around and a rather old fashioned bar in the middle of the space. It’s all a bit messy and grimy but that’s part of its charm - apparently.
The Atmosphere
Camdenites between the ages of 18-30 make up the main bulk of the clientele here alongside local media workers. Amy Winehouse has been known to frequent the Good Mixer and it attracts more than its fair share of the skinny jeans brigade. Evenings, particularly Thursday to Saturday, can be very rowdy and it’s hard to find a seat unless you get here early. Sunday afternoons are also usually pretty packed. This definitely isn’t the place to come if you fancy a quiet pint - the jukebox makes sure of that.
The Drink
The drink here is pretty cheap. The house wine isn’t the best quality but at £2.30 for a small glass it’s hard to complain. Pints average £3.30, which is good for the area although there’s a limited selection. Old Speckled Hen is the only option worthy of note.
The Last Word
If you are looking for a cheap, fun night out and you don’t mind the occasional elbow in the stomach on the way to the bar then the Good Mixer is worth checking out. You never know, you may even spy Miss Winehouse on a bender.
