The new manageress Sam Jennings has barred more people in the last 5 months then the whole of the previous 16 years, which is ironic considering she has stated in the grid residents magazine she wants to make you feel has your in your own front room, well that is fine if you don't have children if you do forget it, she barred a couple with a 4 month old baby when they tried to order food ,saying" you have to order meal for the baby".she told a 68 year old grandmother to drink up and not to come back after she complained about the Christmas decorations being taken down on new years eve, she also shut the pub at 11pm when the rest of the country were celebrating. When told the customer is always right ,she replied not in this pub their not. The tv has been removed has she does not want regulars watching racing, rugby etc but will reinstall for Wimbledon fortnight, hardly fair? If you want a warm welcome stay well clear and visit the pub next door which is cleaner, friendly and has a great new menu.
The Grid has a new manager who is more suited to a concentration camp, children are not welcome unless they are eating and then you are only allowed 2 drinks with your meal then out you go, one couple who disagreed were barred for trying to order desert and another drink not only were they barred the 4 people who were with them were also barred. She also barred a guy for wearing a t shirt with a union jack on it saying it is a bnp shirt, bearing in mind it is not against the law to be a member of said party. In the meantime there are people selling and sniffing drugs in the toilets including the disabled which they all have key for, people dropping their trousers exposing themselves after drinking all day there always people smoking cigarettes and cannabis outside passing lewd comments on any unsuspecting female, then flicking the dog end onto the street. If you want a better environment then go next door too the old garage.
I have lived on Replingham road now for two years and at first I thought the Grid was a typical local working man's pub. However, after the past two years experience I can honestly say it is a haven for some very nasty members of this generally very pleasant community. I am self employed and often work from home. Becuase of this I am privvy to the activity of the Grid as I live within sight of and earshot of conversations which originate in both the Grid and its neighbour the Garage. The difference between the two pubs is the standard of conversation which more often originates from the Grid. The disgusting language that many of the customers at the Grid too frequently spout makes even my seasoned ears cringe. It is not uncommon to see the police outside the Grid and I have on occasion considered calling the police myself. Perhaps the large pub chains should think about investing in publicans who are experienced and efficient at handling difficult and more often alcohol fueled clientele and who understand what it means to exercise a duty of care to not only their patrons but also the community they operate in.
Pretty much what you'd expect from a Wetherspoons - cheap drinks, large menu with average food at low prices, limited character, good if impersonal service. Suffers from the odd influx of chavs, but they don't dominate the customer base.
