Hot staff, average beer, reasonable service, okay food.
Got chatting to the vivacious barmen about his band. Bought him a drink after one of his colleagues towel whipped him because I felt sorry for him. If you read this, I apologise for my forwardness.
Would have been a five star if I had got the bar man's number.
Overall Experience = Average: Pretty indistinguishable from a lot now. The Bar Staff did their job - not overly gushing but friendly enough - Quite surprised by a few of the reviews on here as our experience was average.
The decor was dated (in a good way) We sat in what looked like it could have been the old 'Off Sales Area' - We were surprised that the Disabled Facilities were blocked by a table & seating, Yes, you can ask everybody to move, but really?
With my husband being a Real Ale drinker we tend to come up to London a couple of times a year, purely with the intention of doing our own 'Real Ale Trail' - If the place is friendly/Beer is well kept and has more than 1 Ale on offer - we will then stay and 'sample the others' - At the expense of not visiting other establishments within that Brewery. We only had one drink here!
In our experience this was the nicest of the Truman Pubs within the Spitalfield Market area.
£6.40 for two pints of orange and lemonade. What planet are these people on? LUDICROUS!
After eating at an excellent Tapas bar nearby my husband suggested that we have a drink in The Gun before catching the train home. The staff looked totally disinterested and when 1 girl came over I asked for a diet coke and my husband ordered a pint. She walked away and proceeded to fill a glass with ice. I called to her and politely said "excuse me, no ice thank you". She rolled her eyes and said something to her collegue, who then stared straight at me and muttered something back to her. When she plonked the glass and coke bottle down along with the pint, I asked her if there was a problem with me having no ice. She said "No". She then grabbed the £10 note from my husbands hand. She almost threw the change at him. I couldn't believe what I'd just witnessed.
Whilst it was an effort for them to smile and serve customers they didn't seem to have any problem pouring wine and spirits for themselves !
I had intended to look up the Pub's telephone number and call the manager this morning. However, when I read some of the comments left by previous disgruntled customers, I realised that this would be futile. I decided the best thing would be to add my experience to hopefully warn off other potential customers.
It's hardly surprising that the staff get away with their ignorant behaviour, when the Manager treats complaints so rudely himself.
I would never set foot in the place again.
In total contrast, we went to a Wetherspoons pub next to Liverpool Street Station. There, we were served by a very nice, polite young man. Although he did not know what a Cinzano was he smiled and asked a collegue. There were people behind the bar who wanted to look after customers and were not showing distain towards them !!
I think it's very sad that a once traditional pub is being so mis-managed.
Tourists to London can still find good Old Fashioned pubs where they'll be treated politely. Just AVOID The Gun.

I tried to enjoy a couple of quiet drinks after work with some friends on a quiet week night but after a poor initial experience with the bargirl ('I'm really bored, don't bother me' expression) I tried to return a pint that was in a very dirty glass and with lipstick around the edge.
I was told loudly by the owner (in front of other customers) that I was just being a pain in the ar*e and that I could stick it.
To compound it, the same bargirl gave me a smug look as if to say, "Well? What can you do about it?"
As a bloke and a keen drinker I've been in a few rough places before but this place was just appalling.
The manager obviously didn't care about service, repeat business or customer satisfaction.
A proper pub that is friendly and has a good range of beers, although does need a refurb in the bar on the ground floor. The restaurant upstairs is by far its greatest asset, with good quality food, more than plentiful portions, very good service and all reasonably priced. Unquestionably worth a visit.
Friendly establishment with good beer and enjoyable surroundings.
