The ViewLondon Review
If you fancy a decent meal or a good drink and you’re in the Marylebone area, you’ll be hard pushed to stumble upon a nicer pub than The Gunmakers. The VenueTucked away behind Marylebone High Street, The Gunmakers sits peacefully in a quiet road off Blandford Street, away from the traffic and bustling shoppers. Stepping through the front door during a summer’s day sees the air filled with a golden tint as the light reflects off the yellow canopy and through the huge windows lining the front of the pub - the wooden floors and decor adding to this golden aura. There's also an absolutely enormous cabinet, filled with used ammunition cartridges with small captions underneath - each one describing the calibre (this is The Gunmakers, after all). Other walls are adourned with old black and white photos of famous London streets and Winston Churchill, allowing you to take a lesson in London history as you sip on your pint.
Tables are dotted around the perimeter of the venue, opening up the floor space and making The Gunmakers an ideal pub to meet a large group of friends. The bar sits directly across the floor from the front door, and is easily accessible to thirsty drinkers.
The AtmosphereIn the afternoon, the pub is near empty with the usual local middleaged business folk stopping off for a quiet drink in between meetings. Otherwise, The Gunmakers provides the perfect ambience for an enjoyable lunch, and in the evenings a great night out with your buddies. The young bar staff are friendly, adding to the good feeling that permeates over this venue, whilst the seating out at the front offers a lovely environment for the smokers to get their fix.
The FoodExpect the usual pub grub, only their chips are ‘proper chips’ and they get all their produce from local London outlets - a feat that they pride themselves on. For the reasonable sum of £11.95 you can grab yourself a Ginger Pig sirloin steak with proper chips, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and onions.
The DrinkYou can expect a fine selection of drinks here - they even have a list of Champagnes. If you’re a beer lover, then included on draught are Bombardier, Green King IPA and Spitfire. Slightly more expensive than other pubs in the area, a pint of Guinness will set you back £3.30 while a glass of coca cola will cost you a rather pricey £1.80.
The Last WordIf you’re in the area, The Gunmakers is the ideal place to have yourself a nice drink in an open, clean and quiet environment. In the evening, the space means you can bring all your chums along, too.
