The Hill is a comfortable gastropub with an attractive interior and a good selection of food and drinks for a relaxed, enjoyable night out.

The Venue
The name of the pub is entirely justified by its location, being found halfway up the hill between the underground stations at Chalk Farm and Belsize Park. If you want to stay out beyond closing time it is only a short stagger downhill to Chalk Farm and the beginning of Camden town’s nightlife. This is an excellent location for a pleasant night out, away from the hubbub and noise of Camden lock, the pub is in a residential area but is still lively at weekends.

On first sight, the large windows give an attractive view of drinkers inside. The interior is a mixture of slightly worn, black furniture and cream walls with soft lighting. In the summer there is a paved beer garden, which is walled off from the road and provides a cool spot to sip Pimms or other drinks. The pub also has tables and chairs for eating.

The Atmosphere
On entering The Hill, it has a familiar atmosphere - perhaps it’s the similarity to other gastropubs or the interior design; whatever the reason, it makes for a relaxing and comfortable venue. The pub attracts middleclass and well off clientele from the local area, who come in to eat and drink. It can get rather busy on weekends, but it is usually possible to squeeze past everyone to get to the bar.

The Food
There’s a good selection of European food on offer at The Hill with mezze-type platters to share and other more substantial dishes. The food is well presented and well made - not haute cuisine, but just what is called for in a pub.

The Drink
Beer, cocktails and top-shelf shots are order of the day, while fine wine and a variety of soft drinks are also on offer. In the summer, a pitcher of Pimms is good value and nicely mixed.

The Last Word
The Hill provides an excellent location for a night out catching up with friends or family, in a relaxed location with nice food and a good ambience. It is a good place to go for a drink and meal in informal, hassle free surroundings.
