Just moved into the area and over last few months have tried a few of the local pubs and bars and have been pleasantly surprised by all but at the moment pick of the bunch is The Honor Oak.
I was there last night - live piano, friendly staff, informal setting and good food made for a superb evening. And they have a nice chrimbo tree outside!

Really nice pub and setting, however the food was terrible. Me and a friend recently had a Sunday lunch there - my chicken was raw, and bloody - sadly I only noticed that about half way through the rest of the meal - but I sent it back, I waited for some time before any one came over to explain what was happening to my half eaten meal. Then my friend noticed her food was really undercooked too. The couple on the table next to us heard us talking and said that they had all had the chicken and sent it back as it was bloody and raw and they were leaving. We ended up not paying for the meal and just our drinks, the worst thing was the chef was standing behind the bar leaning against the wall and didn't even come and apologise or speak to us - we had no apology from any of the staff in-fact. Sadly it's put us off coming back - walk the 5 mins to the Brockley Jack instead where the staff are much friendlier and the food is amazing.

I'm quite surprised as i have had the Sunday roast many times and found the food to be succulent and cooked to perfection. also having tried the normal menu served throughout the week-the food standard never changes and i have never had an unsatisfactory meal there and i am very impressed with the extensive array of drinks available-not your typical pub!

This is a lively pub with bags of character and charm. The alluring decor, jovial bar staff and the changing seasonal menu provide something for everyone.

Large sofa’s for sprawling on, frothy lattes for the modern pub goer, cocktails for the sex in the city wannabe’s and a secretive beer garden for gossiping and a furtive smoke not to mention the allure of South East London’s best steak nights(The T Bone is what mouths were made for) it is a real find proving that SE23 is moving up in the world.

Care and detail go in to creating a hearty pub food using fresh ingredients to create favourites such as Gammon Steak and Homemade fish and chips.

The vibe is one of friendly informality, the perfect accompaniment to pint of ale and a wholesome stake and chips!
