Shocking customer service. Our well-behaved staff party booked out the down stairs area and spent over £1000, giving over £80 in tips. Dinner was served over an hour late and there was a long gap between each course with warm food served curiously before cold.
Shortly after dessert, we dutifully moved with still full bottles of wine to an upstairs table as requested, only to be recurrently asked to drink up and leave by a clearly highly stressed female member of staff and on her request intimidated by their 'bouncer', including him standing over our table and staring at us from the time we moved upstairs to putting his hand on a female colleague - all caught on another colleague's Iphone. Shockingly bad customer relations.
I completely understand the need to abide by licensing laws, but the intimidation started well before, while other customers were left to drink in peace. Apparently they were 'friends' of the manger so their custom was apparently valued more highly.
Disgraceful and unnecessarily poor customer service.
Went here late on Friday night for dinner. Missus had pie and mash, I had curried goat, followed by oreo cheesecake and chocolate and pecan brownie. All of it was superb, really good food, hearty portions too. Icing on the cake was the beautiful cocktail(s) I had, a twist on the margarita, called Jamarita. Tequilary goodness. Yum.
Smoky (cigar men outside and no air con)
Overpriced
Food is passable but not at those prices!
Overpriced
1 of the 'waitresses' had the ability to smile whilst the others looked like they'd found a pound but lost a tenner.
Uncomfortable seating.
About 2/10.
I came in last week for an after work drink with some colleagues and ended up staying all evening! The atmosphere was really good with a outdoor area to the front which was great to catch the evening sun. The staff were friendly and attentive and the decor was very cool and eclectic, a lot of thought had obviously gone into it.
We shared a number of starters, the crab samosas and duck and pork terrine were fabulous but the real star of the show was the Sotong Manis which is battered sticky squid with a delicious dipping sauce, so good we ordered it twice. A lovely venue, well worth a visit.
Some friends and I visited The Jam Tree in Kensington on Saturday for lunch. I'd heard great things about the place and certainly wasn't disappointed.
The service was excellent throughout, Sam the manager made sure we were all well attended to and really went the extra mile even though they were pretty busy.
The food was amazing. I had the Jerk Chicken Salad with Mango and Pomegranate to start, a wonderful fusion of flavours, followed by the Sea bass fillets with a salad of watercress, cucumber and sweet potato in a brown shrimp, caper and tomato butter.
My only complaint is that I was too full to try the chocolate and pecan brownie! A great reason to return though, which I certainly will be doing.
Highly recommended.
I went to The Jam Tree in Kensington last night with friends. The restaurant was half full but to be expected at the back end of a Bank Holiday. The food was delicious, the place great and a really helpful and friendly waitress. Will definitely return. Excellent background music also!
I had planed our for months for our wedding party dinner in London for 20 people just to do something different. we booked the private dining room at the Jamtree 58 Milson rd W14 OLB. on the 20th May From the beginning of emailing i had second thoughts because of the lack of communication from Sam O´riordan the (director) 3 days before our dinner we still did not have the menu as i was informed they change it all the time however it was the same menu as on their website since April i booked our 3 course dinner etc. nothing was ready we sat and waited for the glasses for the bubbly etc, our first impression was on the way up to the room was not good as we were getting stuck on the sodden carpets. We never saw Sam the whole evening until he rudely & abruptly interrupted our party to say we had to leave ASAP conveying his excuses about the local council in a very unprofessional manner.I explained to him that he had no service or communications skills what so ever the way he conducted himself, which he got very upset about.I told him that the power of blogging is very powerful & that i would never come back to the Jamtree I wish i could show you all the mail i received when i got home with his (explanation) i feel like i after spending a thousand pounds i have done something wrong, they couldn't even get the bill right, had to ask them to refund the deposit 0f 150 pounds i paid. The only waitress for the whole party did her best she could, the food was good.
Three of my party have been in the food & beverage industry for many years and would never of conducted themselves in the manner the (director) Sam did.
However he has offered me a free dinner at his place if ever we are back in London, no thanks never again.
By the way still waiting for my deposit of 150 pounds.
The waitress did inform me that it was her last week working at The Jam tree, i wonder why?But never again you have been advised.
Very disappointing on a very special occasion.
My friends invited me to the jam tree for Sunday brunch. I had the vege breakfast with a sausage on the side. It was all cooked perfectly. The scrambled egg soft, spinach lightly steamed, mushroom grilled with herbs and seasoned with rock salt, 3 thick slices of haloumi, and the essential hash brown and beans. My friends had the full English and the pancakes and bacon equally good. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed a relaxing hour reading the papers whilst listening to some quality tunes. I will be back to try the evening menu!
Fantastic venue for a late lazy long lunch. Great food, relaxed service. Sam made us feel as though we were at home. Birthday lunch was a resounding success. Thanks to Sam and the team for easing my entry into my 35th year!
Could have been great, but barely average. Delicious burger, charming style and very lovely waitress, but a frequent cold draft, hefty bill and most memorably a miserable, dismissive manager (I assume) really took the edge off. On a relaxed late Saturday afternoon, he didn't try to raise a smile in any of our several interactions, none of which were other than normal server/customer conversations. If I have unwittingly grievously offended this man in a previous life, I deeply apologise; but either way I'll be giving The Jam Tree a wide berth and heading back to The Havelock.
Fantastic Sunday Roast. Beautifully tender Rib of Beef and a great atmosphere. Our waiter was superb throughout the meal, very attentive , you can tell everyone at the Jam Tree from the kitchen to the waiting staff really care about there place. We'll be back next Sunday for sure.
I have just got home after dinner with friends at the Jam Tree. I live around the corner, and was looking forward to trying out this Gastro-pub, as I had read rave reviews. Unfortunately, I am hugely disappointed. The service was some of the worst I have ever experienced. The waiter, who also worked behind the bar, was one of the most petulant people I have ever encountered. I don't think he could have made us feel more un-welcome if he had tried. Everything was an effort, and we felt that we were doing him a favour just by being there. But, we wanted to give the food a chance. I was surprised, when handed the menu, how high the prices were, but, good food costs, so we ordered. Our dishes came. Mine was luke warm and the “parsley sauce” tasted of nothing other than milk. A totally bland, tasteless and worse than some of the “boil-in-the-bag” meals I ate in my youth. But, my overall gripe, is that we were charged service for having to put up with the most arrogant and un-helpful waiter who ruined our night. The Havelock and Bird in Hand are both around the corner, and a swell as making you feel welcome, serve excellent fppd. I will never go back there, and will encourage people to do the same until they change the staff and improve the food.
At last, a fantastic new addition to Kensington, The Jam Tree - just what we’ve all been waiting for! Great food (I’d recommend the scallops), buzzy atmosphere, and good service. Plus the decor is super cool. Will definitely be making this place a regular.
I live on Milson Road and it's great to see another place open up to rival the Havelock Tavern and raise the bar...
This place used to be called Priory House, the last thing you would want to call a bar... conjures up thoughts of you being sent to rehab after you visit...
Anyway, after visiting the re-branded venue and sampling the food and wine, rehab is the last place I want to go. The new owners have delivered a gem of a bar. So many places have tried to mix trendy, contemporary with classic and have failed, but the Jam Tree is quite magnificent decor wise.
The food was spot on. My friend tried the Malaysian Laksa and I had the Belly of Pork for starters, and for mains we had the matured Rib-eye and scallops. All dishes were cooked to perfection.
The staff are friendly and service is good. They actually offered us tap water and free bread which is surprising as most places try to sting you for an extra fiver on mineral water and bread and butter.
The Havelock Tavern best beware and there's a new kid on the block...
