This pub has all the charm of a wet wednesday in grimsby - surly bar staff , over priced drinks and the 35 minute wait for food is barely acceptable in a very busy west end joint , but not in a pub with 6 other diners ! Did i mention the price of drinks ??? No really it just drinks , your not buying a share of the pub although it would be cheaper !Sven
When I get mugged, I like it to be quick, the lighthouse this weekend decided to spread it out over 4 excruciating hours.
I have always found that good looking girls have above average interpersonal skills and therefore the four on duty should have had great front of house waitressing skills. As it was, when we turned up at 1430 for our booked table, an hour later we had to take our own order as none of them had approached us.
They then made up for their lack of face time by coming back 4 times to say that the Sunday roast beef was off the menu, then the Sunday roast chicken, then because they had not put our order through originally when they had the above problems, the Sunday roast lamb and beef burgers were also off the menu as well. Who would have thought that a booked Sunday table would want to eat a Sunday roast!
Food turned up over an hour later by which time the rest of the place was empty but still the four waitresses had not seen that our food had not arrived.
The food was good and tasty, no problems there.
In a now near empty pub we cleared our own plates as the staff must have been playing in the kitchen and we did not want to put them out.
We were not offered pudding & only when they tried to take the bill from us did anyone think to start apologising for the level of service and length of time it took to mug us.
I will not come back, nor will the ten other locals I was with ever come back and if you are after a chilled Sunday lunch with a big group of friends, go somewhere else. What the Lighthouse does well (charge £4.90 for a drink) and many other places do the food a whole lot better.
I visited this bar with four friends just before xmas and have been meaning to write this review.I tried this bar as I’d often gone past it and never gone in. The look of this bar from the outside looks great, when you step through the door the bar is light and well laid out. When I ordered the first round at the bar I was met with 2 youngish looking barmen, one was busy and the next just looked plain miserable and moody, he knew I was standing waiting to be served still he did nothing and stood there, no acknowledgement and no eye contact, not what you want when you’re looking to order a round. I didn’t let bother me and waited to be served by another. We had a good night until about 30 minutes before closing time where we were rudely told to drink up as the bar would soon be closing. There was another full table of drinkers who wasn’t told to drink up etc so when we were spoken to rudely again by the young bar staff being told we’d have to get out or the police would be called – was just ridiculous !!!!!!! The guys in my group didn’t enjoy being spoken to like that and told the bar staff so, the police were called. We’re five 32-40 year olds having a pre xmas drink with friends clearly not young idiots looking for trouble. We’d finished our drinks and had left when the police arrived. Outside the police explained the bars in the area were being targeted for armed robberies so had to shut at 11pm on the dot. Why the moody young jumped up barmen did not just say this instead of being rude idiots that they were, the night needn’t of ended in this manner.I wouldn’t recommend this bar, if fact if you’re looking for a good night I’d recommend The Lost Angel just 5 minutes away, here you’ll get a great service with friendly bar staff who’ll acknowledge you when you’re waiting to spend your money and you certainty don’t get the police called on you when you’re told to finish your drinks you’ve got to get out!!Don't bother with The Lighthouse!
Our favorite pub south of the river. Fantastic food in a cosy, up beat clean environment.
