The Little House is the kind of pub you might be made to feel unwelcome in. Don’t worry, it’s not you - it’s the kind of people it attracts. It’s not all bad, however, as Hendon is full of pubs and you’ll be sure to find one you like nearby.

The Venue
At around 4pm on a weekday, anyone from Hendon will know that Brent Street is absolutely heaving with kids from the various schools and colleges in the area so it’s always nice to find somewhere to escape. The Little House can be found just past New Brent Street with its many signs stating that families are welcome.

Inside, it’s disappointing, feeling somewhat bare. Seating is arranged on a two-tier system. Through the front door to your right are a few tables and chairs and a couple of hideous looking pink sofas. Directly in front of the entrance is a short staircase, which takes you up to a larger seating area and the bar - there aren’t many tables and chairs up here, however, as the room has been designed for most people to stand and watch one of the many TVs. The whole place looks like it could do with a lick of paint, though one of its more interesting features is the wall lining the staircase. The front pages of various newspapers have been framed with headlines like ‘Marilyn Monroe Found Dead’, ‘Men Walk On Moon’ and ‘Elvis Found Dead’. Some are very morbid, it’s true, but nonetheless they’re still very interesting.

A games room lies adjacent to the bar area complete with pool table, dartboard and a couple of fruit machines. You’ll find another one of those repulsive pink sofas in here, too. On the walls in the games room at The Little House are a few signed photos of various Arsenal players and mini football shirts.

The Atmosphere
The Little House is quite an intimidating pub, which makes it quite hard to enjoy an afternoon drink. The bar staff are rude and the group of lads propping up the bar like to stare and share uncensored stories of fights and family rows. If you feel brave enough you can break the tension by putting some money into the jukebox hanging on the wall - a bit of Meatloaf can go a long way.

The Drink
The booze at The Little House isn’t anything special, just your usual Fosters, Stella, Guinness, Strongbow and John Smiths on tap and a small selection of bottled lagers in the fridge.

The Last Word
It may have a pool table, dartboard and large screens for the sport, but if you feel intimidated the whole time there’s not much point. There are friendlier alternatives only a short walk away.
