Have been to this place for drinks or dinner about 6 times now and every time I have had a brilliant experience. The staff are genuinely lovely and welcoming and the food is fantastic and reasonably priced. This is the closet pub to my house and it's the best local I've ever had! Very highly recommended!
I love this place, is definitely the best place to go on a Sunday for a relaxed afternoon. The Bloody Marys are as amazing as advertised and the Sunday Roasts are fabulous, the gravy is truly delicious. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the drinks selection is good.
Having recently moved to the area I was quite simply in search of a nice local pub that offered good food at reasonable prices. The Lord Clyde was geographically the closest so I hoped it would offer what I wanted. It did, and more.
I arrived with my other half ready to embrace the menu. It was a Sunday so roasts were on the agenda. We arrived shortly after 7 and the landlord came over and said that the kitchen had just closed. He could see the disappointment on our faces and told us to wait while he ran upstairs to speak to the chef. When he returned he said they could sort us out and took our order.
We shared the pea soup with chunky bread, and my partner said it was probably the nicest soup he'd ever had. Our roasts then arrived, mine the pork, his the beef. Our expectations were quite high at this point and to our delight the mains courses did not disappoint. For the price, we couldn't have asked for more.
We played some scrabble over a few candle-lit drinks and read the papers. There is also a large beer garden behind the pub (and seating at the front) which offer a nice place to drink during the day.
The key to a successful pub is quite simply a landlord knowing what s/he is doing. Here he certainly did. He pulled some strings to accommodate us, was very helpful with suggesting wine, and was happy to chat when I asked a few questions about the pub. We will certainly be making this our 'local'.
I really hope this pub is a sign of things to come. What a difference! Totally unpretentious with a keen eye on all getting the important stuff right. Fantastic food, drinks, friendly people, (and free wi-fi). It's the kind of place you look forward to coming back to. The anti-thesis of the soul-less pub chains that we all secretly hope might die. Hopefully, they keep the vibe going as they get more successful. I'll be watching!
I think this is now one of my favourite pubs in North London. Heard about this pub re-opening from a friend and went the other evening. They are right about the Bloody Mary it was really good and loved the atmosphere of the pub. We also had a great meal and I have to say I had the best Shepherds Pie I think I have had (I would recommend it on that basis alone!) I also hear there have been a few famous faces dropping in since the launch - but none on this occassion sadly.
Had a great time...will definately be back!!
Without doubt the best Bloody Mary I've had in years!! Thank heavens for Mat. The music was great and the staff really friendly, and the roast on sunday was impossible to fault. Great value too at only £11.00. The whole experience was great, the only minus was the gents toilet which needs some attention, but I understand from Mat that this will be done in the next few weeks.
All in all a great pub, and I cannot recommend the food highly enough.
Good job guys!
