Excellent pub! Went last Saturday with the family and the staff couldn't do enough to help us - even got our puppy a bowl of water without us having to ask! Food was great, good sized portions and not too overpriced. I also thought the wine list was pretty extensive for a pub with lots of options by the glass which is a nice touch. Will definitely be back and recommend it to friends.

What a brilliant find!
I was put onto this place by a mate who regularly visits for a pint after playing footy round the corner. I don't usually write reviews of pubs but after I'd been I googled it and was gobsmacked to read even one negative comment - I really don't see how you can fail to love the place.
For starters the food is immense. Best roast beef I've had possibly ever. Great bloody mary's and best of all, really really nice staff. I can't think of a better place to spend a Sunday and I'll definitely be back mid-week.
And it's really not expensive either, not by London standards. The quality of the food is really good - you definitely get what you pay for, if not more.
My advice? don't be swayed by any bad reviews, check this place out for yourself.

Fantastic food, but good luck with trying to get any service, or even getting what you asked for!

As a once loyal customer to the pub I’m sad to say that since its been under new management things have gotten gradually worse. It has now become the norm to wait over 15mins at the bar to get served, and you will always wait over an hour for the food to arrive, and these are on occasions when the place is quiet!

It’s a nice venue, but the service is very poor and the ever changing staff lack in any customer skills and need to learn a few good manners.

I recommend the chef jump ships and set up his own restaurant, because the food is the only good thing going for the place!

I'm a regular at The Stanley too and I find this review really offensive. To say it's the "norm" to wait 15 mins is not true. To say "you will always wait over an hour" for food is a lie. A complete lie. I wonder if you have another agenda here? I come to the Stanley 2/3 times a week - even on a busy Sunday I have NEVER waited over an hour for my food. I have NEVER waited 15 mins to be served, and no-one else has either. These kind of spiteful, false reviews just aren't helpful. If you have something constructive to say then great, but please don't tell outright lies.

Decided to give this pub another chance after 2 really bad experiences. Was impressed to find things had actually gotten worse.

Service is diabolical and the food manages to both be hugely expensive and massively disappointing, not a great combination. Save yourself a lot of frustration and big hit to your wallet and give this place a miss

I have been a local to this pub for many years, but i have to say the standards of this pub have dropped dramatically in the last 2 years. What was once a lively, bubbly atmospheric place has become a very dull, money scheming enterprise. The owners of this pub of are more interested in making a profit out of their customers than pay attention to keeping them. They provide poor food/wine and service. On several occasions I have had to send the food back because it is awful. The prices for food and wine are gastronomically high. £8 for a large glass of standard wine. I have had to ask the barman/maid to fill my husbands beer to the top of the glass while asking for my wine to be poured correctly to the line of the glass where it says 250 ml. The management has changed frequently and it is the management that has brought this place down. It seems the owners have told their team to cut corners where they can, pour less spirits into the optic pourer to save money, under pour the wine measure in the glass on the hope the customer doesn't comment. I have seen this happen. I visited the other pubs the owners have out of curiosity have received the same service. These pubs are the Tufnal park tavern, and the Landsdowne. It really is quite disappointing and sad when you have to watch the staff and make sure your not being short changed or coned out of your hard earned cash. If there is an organization one can write to to report such poor standards of running a pub, I would certainly write to them of my experience. I live nearby and have done for many years. Who do these people think they are. Just because the area in which this pub sits has a vibrant community the incentive to rip me off is off putting and unfair. I will not be returning. Instead, I will venture off to a more suitable pubs that offer better standard of service.

Ace pub - I started drinking there a few months after my old local went seriously downhill.

The staff are friendly and seem to genuinely enjoy working there, which makes a nice change. I mainly drink there after work but have also been down on a Sunday with the Mrs. It's a great place to chill and read the papers, we ate a really decent Sunday lunch (massive portions) and then spent most of the afternoon there. Pretty much every table was full but it was nice not to be turfed off our table after we ate to make way for more diners - which seems to be policy at loads of pubs nowadays.

Would really recommend this place to anyone - chilled, nice staff, good attitude to the whole thing and good value for money too. Top marks from me.

I visited The Lord Stanley on Sunday for my birthday and had the most fantastic time! The food was incredible. We ate a whole roast chicken between four of us. It was presented with all the trimmings and I can honestly say it was one of the best roasts I've ever eaten - juicy, tender with crispy skin. Yum! Great roast potatoes as well. But the real stars were the veggies - the carrots and greens were so good I even tried to bribe the chef for his recipe. One of our group was a vegetarian and she could have happily eaten a plate of the veggies alone - that's how good they were! Another had the Roast Beef which was cooked to perfection and came with the biggest, fluffiest yorkshire pudding i've ever seen. The gravy was awesome! To top it all off the service was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble even though the place was packed full to the rafters (it seems half of North London already know about this gem!) The manager recommended a great white wine (picpoul something?) to go with the chicken and the lady who cleared our plates boxed up our leftovers for us to take home. Truly wonderful staff. Such fantastic value - ended up paying about £20 for delicious food (including some great Olives/ Hummous/ Homemade bread to start) super impressive wine and leftovers! Can't recommend The Lord Stanley highly enough. My only fear is that it will get even more popular than it already is and next year I won't be able to get a table!

irstly, this is a review based on my experience across 2 visits to this pub. The first one was equally awful, but we decided on Sunday to give it one more chance. I had heard good things and despite the fact it is expensive was sure it'd be worth it.

To summarise what is to follow, it was, yet again, one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have ever had.

Where to start.... the service is truly second rate. It appears the management cannot work out that they will be busy at the weekend and have far too few people working. This means food is sitting waiting to be taken to the table (I saw one tables food sit for 10 minutes) and it took on average 15 minutes to get drinks each time (and to get our bill? I stood at the bar for 25 minutes....)

We started with the bread + olives. Hard to get wrong. The bread was fantastic but the olives were close to uneatable - they tasted old, stale, as if they'd been sat in the container they were fished out of for a very, very long time.

Onto the mains.... Both mine and my wifes food was clearly sat out for far too long, when it got to us hers was cold, mine lukewarm. The manager brining us our food also managed to spill gravy all over me, and brought us two pepper pots instead of salt and pepper. My wife sent hers back to be warmed up. It returned 5 minutes later, barely hotter but by this stage we realised we were not going to get it sorted so we just decided to give up.

The food itself? We had the roast lamb + roast beef. In both cases, the meat was decent enough, if overly fatty. The potato's however tasted foul, the best way to describe it would be stale cardboard. The carrots were still nearly raw and the greens were so over peppered that they over powered everything else near them on the plate.

I highly suggest that you give this place a miss - unless you enjoy paying a premium for bad service, awful food, poor beer choices and a general experience which makes me wonder how this place is still in

I've visited this pub twice now in three weeks and have to say that my overall opinion is that the place is great. - Lovely staff, great food and lovely atmosphere.

Like another reviewer has mentioned, much better than a lot of of all of the other generic and awful pubs in and around Camden or London for that matter. - Generally a very nice crowd in there. - Ok, there were a few Tim-nice-but-dim types but I'd rather that than drunken louts or general underclass making the place look untidy...

Hope this helps.

Alex

One of the best pubs in London. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious food. They do bbq's in the summer, breakfast at the weekends, incredible Sunday roasts. What more could you ask for.?!?!

The Lord Stanley is full of ageing musos who are ready to bore the pants off anyone who will listen - food only OK and crowd a little provincial.

The Lord Stanley is such a gorgeous pub and I love the way it's all really traditional with lots of wood and comfy seating. I think the open kitchen works really well and always makes me feel a little safer, knowing that I can see who is cooking my food! If you're tired of other pubs in Camden (and who's not?) then head to the Lord Stanley - it be marvelous!

The Lord Stanley is full on Ponce Ville, full of public school hyenas. My outlandish request for fries with my fish was dismissed with a curt reply. Apparently, they only do chips with the lamb, and you can't have them with fish. Overpriced tat, crap service, zero atmosphere - The Lord Stanley is full of mugs, but this one won't be returning.

The Lord Stanley has gone downhill since the new management took over a couple of years ago. During a recent meal in there I had meat that was mainly skin and fat and vegetables that were sitting in a pool of cold water. The staff were unconcerned and wanted to carry on chatting to their friends instead of taking an interest in their customers. What a shame as The Lord Stanley used to be great.

What on earth is the person below going on about? The Lord Stanley is a fantastic pub that serves amazing food and has a fantastic wine list. There's a good selection of beers too, though not my choice of tipple, and with summer coming up my mates and I will definitely be making use of the cute beer garden out the back. The Lord Stanley is an amazing pub...definitely one of the best in the area!

Yeah, he claims his name is Lord Stanley, but I didn’t see many gentlemanly attributes when I visited. Maybe Lord Stanley needs to go back to finishing school?
