I recently ate at the Marquis for the 1st time and what a disappointment. I had the Christmas menu it was limited and expensive - 2 courses for over £25, 3 for just under £30 + service - I assumed it would be good quality at that price - but I was wrong - quality, quantity and service were all sadly lacking and I would not described what I got on my plate as home-cooked.

I stared with melon - 3 small slices with a very average fruit coulis, I certainly couldn't taste the cointreau. This was followed roast beef - no yorkshire pudding. The beef had not been hand carved off a freshly roast rib - its suspiciously round slices must have either been pre-sliced and package in its gravy or it was a previous day's offering reheated in a weak gravy. I didn't have a pudding but the brownie was not much bigger than a postage stamp and the pre-formed christmas pudding not much bigger.

I felt well and truly ripped off, particularly as I was surrounded by other tables with the normal menu - the food looked much better and was at least half the price

The Marquis will have to do a lot better than this if it wants to keep its customers - or perhaps with its location it feels it doesn't have to make the effort - shame

The Marquess of Anglesey website sets high expectations that just aren't met. The food is described as their 'famous British menu'. However, the superlative descriptions didn't translate into reality and the food we were presented with was average at best.

The overall bill was much higher than expected due to very high drink charges - and watch out for the discretionary tip!

The Marquess of Anglesey was a perfect stop before going to the theatre. Simple British food prepared to perfection and a welcoming atmosphere to relax in before our evening.

We were at the Marquess of Anglesey last Saturday and had a great time. The menu has improved - the traditional British food was great. Friendly staff made us feel welcome and we'll be back soon.

Having recently been to the Marquess of Anglesey, I wasn't really that impressed. A pint of lager was £3.15, which I certainly don't consider to be inexpensive or even reasonable. My chicken and avocado sandwich arrived without any avocado in it (and not much in the way of chicken). Unfortunately, it took so long to arrive that I didn't have time to send it back, or I would have been late for the theatre performance next door. All in all, I felt even more ripped off than I usually do when I go to Covent Garden. The Marquess of Anglesey isn't really for me!
