My partner felt like going for a nice summers day pint today. On going to this place he got served a beer and then felt like another one! On trying to get his second pint he was refused service due to his english polo shirt. Not only does this seem ludicrous given that he had already been served once but the way in which it was dealt with was extremely dissatisfying. Staff were extremely rude.
On asking to just simply have this pint in the garden and then leave he was told 'no thats just more visible'.
I wouldn't bother with this place unless you know a member of staff. We have been there before and found them rude and disinterested in customers apart from their mates at the end of the bar.
As for the other comments on student pub, I fully agree! Tatty grot hole that won't be recieving custom from us or friends anymore!

The Marquis is by far the best pub in Epsom (and the surrounding area's). Though I live virtually on the doorstep of another pub I always make the 10-minute journey down to the Marquis.

The selection of beers is next to none; no matter what you are drinking there is always plenty of options. The new menu offers good value for money is very tasty.

I particularly recommend the bangers and mash!A friendlier bunch of staff you won't find and they always keep the place in the smartest condition.

Many a time I have arrived in after work on my own and spent several hours boring a poor member of staff to tears without complaint.

The thing I probably like most about the place is the atmosphere. It's dark (always improves my chances with the lady's) with mood lighting and plenty of space indoors and out.

There is a covered smoking area.Lastly the staff put on great nights! The weekly quiz (I believe on a Monday) and the poker night (Wednesday) is fun for any number old and young alike.

If you know a better pub I'd like to know it.

Long live the Marquis!!

The "surly bar staff" are back .
Don't know if these are the originals or a new batch.

They have only one bitter on a Saturday night - but several lagers.

Tables were uncleared & bitter shandy was flat.
(Flat lemonade , I guess)

Been going to the Marquis of Granby for a while now and it's a pub that's got everything right. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and clientele and some excellent food. So much better than most of the other pubs in Epsom, especialy the other end. The Marquis definitely gets five stars from me.
