Have to agree with the negative reviews. Went there this evening at about 7:15 with my wife. Had to wait around 15 minutes at the bar to place the order and then had to move tables because the football on the television was at an unacceptable volume. When the food arrived around 20 minutes later my wife's haddock fishcakes were clearly overdone on the outside, while the inside was slushy and lacking much evidence of haddock. Additionally, although she had ordered the side salad instead of the potato wedges (and the order had been repeated at the bar) it came with wedges - we couldn't be bothered complaining and waiting further. My "award winning" steak and bacon pie was all pastry and gravy with little evidence of meat. Won't be back.

On a recent visit to London, My family and I decided on The Minories Pub For Lunch and a couple of drinks, we had been here before, this time last year and were reasonably happy with the food and service. The weather was amazing and streets full with tourist so it was no surprise the place was extremely busy.. luckily we managed to find a table and to our surprise a few changes had taken place. The Menu fore one was different, although slightly more expensive, we later were told that the quality and freshness had also risen. We went to the bar to order and although it was full, we were greeted instantly by a young male manager and within a few minutes he was ready to serve us, He was very pleasant and chatted politely, explained the reason for the change in menu and recommended some dishes, the service was efficient, with even a great looking cocktail made for my wife, within just a few minutes. We went back to our table and about 15 minutes later our food was delivered by a bubbly, friendly waitress. The Food looked great and tasted fantastic, The quality was instantly recognisable and you could tell the cooking of the dishes was now taking on a much more fresh approach. With us all fully satisfied we brought another drink and sat out in the beer garden to soak up the rays. This is a great pub, i will definitely recommend it to friends who visit London, and me and my Family will without a doubt return. The food is great value for money, the venue is unique and the staff make it a wonderful atmosphere. So on behalf of my Family- Thank-you :)

I don't normally write reviews for pubs but just have to for this one! But it is not going to be positive!

Just got back home from a Sunday roast lunch there and was very disappointed with it. I normally go to Weatherspoons but decided to try seeing as I only live down the road and have never been before.

Today the Sunday roast was beef. It says on the menu Sunday roast with all trimmings plus dessert for 7.49. Sounds good on paper but when my wife and I received our meals the plate was massive but the portion was quite poor. We had a few carrots, 3 roast potatoes, 1 large broccoli, a few spoonfuls of mash and 2-3 slices of beef. The gravy was extremely watery and the taste was quite bland. When I asked about the Yorkshire pudding the waiter went to ask the chef, only to be told that they had ran out of Yorkshire puddings! I didn't get told this at the bar when ordering so feel I had been conned somewhat as I paid for everything, not to be told afterwards parts of the food were missing. If that was the case they should had given me a discount.

On top of this the food took 45 mins to arrive! I had also ordered 2 pots of tea and that took 30 mins to arrive at our table. The service is ridiculously slow! I had an italian/spanish waiter who bought us our tea so I asked him if the food was going to be much longer as we had already waited 30 mins. He tells me that the bar should have told me it would be 30 mins but could be another 10-15 mins. When I told him that the bar never told me it would take so long he quite rudely said to me "well do you want to stay then or not?!". Certainly was not happy with his attitude especially when they were at fault for miscommunication and delay in bringing me my food and drinks. However the subsequent asian waiter was much more polite and accomodating which I am happy to give him credit for.

My dessert was ok but nothing to write home about. Had a triple layered cake with ice cream. However this came very quickly.

I had

Does sound like you had bad experience taichiky! Got to say though - think you might have just had really randomly unlucky visit.
My family also live nearby and we go to the Minories all the time. We're all known for being pretty impatient and greedy and haven't been disappointed with portions or speed of service yet!
I would give it another go - definitely gets our vote over weatherspoons any day!

Hmm it seems I had a small portion of my review missing! But either way the ending wasn't good lol

Yea maybe your right as they did seem short staffed but I was very miffed that no one told me the Yorkshire puddings had ran out that day! Bit of a small thing to some people but I love my Yorkshire puddings haha.

I may give them a try again some time in the future but just need to shake the negative feelings first. For now I think I'll be sticking to the Wetherspoons!

Thanks for the reply anyway I appreciate it! :-)

The Minories is quaintly positioned within the confines of an arch in a railway bridge. This deceivingly large pub makes for a nice family atmosphere throughout the day with a large menu of many different meals all of a reasonable standard.

However, through the night from about 6pm The Minories will morph into a nightclub with familiar disco anthems pumping till the early hours of the morning.

Although it has strong competition from many of the venues around it, The Minories holds its own by remaining versatile.

If you like the 70's and 80's then you'll love The Minories. A crowd of us had a great night on the karaoke and the beers. We decided to have something to eat while we were there and the food is average pub grub.
The Minories is a good place to go with a group, get loud and have lots of fun.
