Ending a day trip to London with a meal at the Norfolk Arms is always a treat for my wife and I. Today we enjoyed the freshest sardines imaginable and excellent home-made tagliatelle with shitake mushrooms. The tapas at the next table looked good too. The fact that it's best to book is testament to the good food, friendly staff and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Anyone who wants to know what makes a good modern non-chain pub buzz should visit here without delay. Anyone with time to spare before catching a train from Euston, St Pancras or King's Cross she make a bee-line there; they won't be disappointed.
Great place for Coffee and the Sunday Papers before 12pm.
Roast Dinners are good but expensive, plus a 12% charge on your food bill.
*Great service from the usual Italian Guys but weirdly sullen and slow from the current Sunday staff *
Also serve Tapas, great for a quick snack before the cinema!
I only go at the weekend when it's more chilled out. I like the tapas. Everything seems fresh and its not too expensive. I would avoid this place during the week when the suburban commuters are in town.
All the reviews below are typical of the sort of navel gazing clientele the post 2005 Norfolk Arms now attracts.
Before the refit this was a proper local boozer.
Now its stuffed full of local yapping wannabe yuppies from the surrounding offices and narcissistic St Martins arts students.
In its pomp this was a proper local with characters like the infamous 'John' giving it the large one on the pavement outside.
I'd trade that in for your pidgeon chocolate fondant whatever any day. Pah.
I have been to The Norfolk Arms a few times now and have never been disappointed. The food is simple, tasty and very reasonably priced. The place has a lovely feel about it and the menu is small but it is all presented and cooked well. The alcohol at The Norfolk Arms is also well priced, with a bottle of house white around £12.00 a bottle.
Would definatly recommend it.
The Norfolk Arms is not exactly the best pub I’ve ever been to. The barman was a little hurried even though we were virtually the only people in the place, and there was hardly a huge selection of drinks.
I don’t think I’ll be returning to the Norfolk Arms any time soon!
The food is fine at the Norfolk Arms, but the service is dreadful. Plus, the staff are not much bothered that food does not appear for hours.
The food was very nice, when it came. We booked a Christmas lunch at the Norfolk Arms and paid in advance, but they had clearly forgotten to cater for us. We arrived at one, as arranged, and got our food at three. The Norfolk Arms had shocking service. Even the bread took half an hour. My score would have been much higher otherwise!
We had a massive group celebrating a birthday at The Norfolk Arms and the evening couldn't have gone smoother. Intimate atmosphere, surprisingly comfortable and the food was better than average. The staff at The Norfolk Arms even joined in when we sang Happy Birthday. How we laughed...
I had high hopes for The Norfolk Arms but it didn't really live up to the hype. Food was ok, service was poor. I suspect The Norfolk Arms will still do alright though, it seemed busy enough.
I went and tried the new Norfolk Arms and was pleasantly surprised. It seems that whatever teething problems there were have been sorted out and the staff were really friendly and informative. They explained the style of the place, the food and even recommended some fantastic dishes.
The Seafood soup at The Norfolk Arms was to die for! The pigeon breast with chocolate and raspberries was just naughty. The chocolate fondant was seriously amazing. I would highly recommend going to The Norfolk Arms and ask the staff for recommendations. The whole evening was great and my friends and I are definitely going back seeing as they change the menu regularly.
I really like the Norfolk Arms now it's had a refit. The food is really well done and I had a smashing evening with my mates. Well done Norfolk Arms - you've pulled back from the brink.
The Norfolk Arms has recently been transformed from non-descript local pub to gastro-style pub. The decor looks great and provides a much nicer atmosphere for after work drinks and weekend chilling. We were a little disappointed with the gastro menu which promised so much.
The scotch egg was great but the chewy pasta, over-done peas and crab for £11.50 left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth. Let’s hope that it was just down to being the end of a long day in a new kitchen. The Norfolk Arms now provides a great place for wine drinkers to chill with the paper in the sun even if it has priced out most of the locals.
We were given old meat at The Norfolk Arms. The waitress changed the orders, but no chef came to give an explanation. I then ordered some fish, and the waitress told me that they only had potatoes and beans as a side. They didn't tell us that they were going to serve us the same ones back again with the new dish.
When my fish came to the table it was cold as if it had just came out of the fridge. The waitress said that there wasn't anything else to change it for. So I didn't have any dinner. The rest of my group ate a bit of their food but they didn't enjoy it. I tried to get a refund for my fish but the French manager wouldn't do it. He was really rude and started shouting at us. I wouldn't recommend The Norfolk Arms to anyone. It is nothing special as a pub, the food is terrible and the manager is very arrogant and aggressive.
