We went to the old crown for a hen party meal, and we were quite disappointed unfortunately. The booking of the meal had been good and they seemed friendly, but when we arrived they were not very welcoming, and we had to ask for the menus after about 20 mins of waiting. The female member of staff came across very unprofessional and disinterested. There was 10 of us in the group, and half ordered burgers (which were lovely and great chips!) unfortunately though, the ceaser salads took 5 mins longer, and one was forgotten about completely, arriving just as the first lot had finished, with not much of an apology! Took a long time to clear the table too, and it just felt like we were not really welcome which was a real shame as everyone in the group commented on it.

As the "hen" for this particular do I echo the comments made above. And would like to add that the Mint Champagne panacotta tasted like a roast lamb dinner. It was the worst dessert I have ever had. To end on a good note, the chips were the best I have ever had though.

Oh and no Malibu! My favourite tipple,
Very unusual for a pub not to stock this. :-( most disappointing.

Had a great party here in the smaller function room on the first floor. Staff were a bit difficult to pin down early on, when we wanted to make sure that our reservation had been confirmed. But, the week of the party, everyone was very helpful! We placed an order of tapas the day of, in lieu of canapes, and they turned out great. We had a nice fire going and were able to use our own iPod for the music.

The Old Crown's central location made it easy for everyone to get to, and I was happy that they had a good selection of both cocktails and beer. I definitely recommend them for private parties!

I booked a table for 8 for our Christmas dinner at The Old Crown. Not only was the manager very helpful and polite when I was initially making enquiries, but after I booked and there were last minute changes, they were very accommodating and friendly.

We were looked after from the minute we arrived, and the food and service was great all the way through. Highly recommend this place!

(Just make sure you don't mix this place up with the similar-named pub a few doors down... yikes!)

I work just around the corner and we book tables for after work drinks and have never had a problem with this place at all. I think it has a great vibe, good range of spirits (particularly rum....mmmmmm) and nice staff.

Dont bother to book The Old Crown for anything! A friend booked a room for her 30th birthday and was badly let down! Staff couldnt care less, yet still add service to the bill! The beef roast is tasteless and consists of 2 (blink and you'll miss them) slices of beef and some lacklustre vegetables. The vegetable roast dinner had no substitute for meat (just a few extra veg) and we had to ask more than once for veg gravy. We were also asked if we had specifically requested veg gravy when we had booked the meals the week before and were told we had to wait because a large(more important?) order was being dealt with before ours?! We did place our order a week before bear in mind! And as if a vegetarian would eat meat gravy on their vegetables? Veg gravy eventually arrived halfway through the meal! Oh, and we paid £10.95 for the above-mentioned meals can you believe!(with no discount for the ''veg roast'') I could go on but i'm sure you've got the message by now. Go elsewhere!

Seems like a nice pub but staff are completely useless. A friend of mine booked an area for her 30th birthday on a Saturday night but when we arrived they hadn't got the booking and were already full. A half-hearted apology was made and then a shrug of the shoulders and no attempt to explain why the booking wasn't made by the person who, fortunately for her, was not working that night. As they were full anyway, I guess it's no skin of their nose that we didn't stay but hardly customer service to have no explanation of why the booking wasn't made properly and look like they didn't even care that much.

Ruined a friend's birthday as, despite her planning well in advance, we then had to trek around the area looking for somewhere with seating still available to celebrate her birthday and call all her friends to tell them where we were.

Don't rely on this place as you'll probably be let down.
