The ViewLondon Review
A pub high on attitude and low on charm, it’s hard to find much good in The Old Rose. The VenueThis little pub is easy to find - it’s the small building standing by itself opposite Crowder Street on The Highway. Inside, you’ll be greeted with little more than a small square floor. They’ve gone with a green colour scheme with green chairs and a dark green ceiling. To break up the green they’ve opted for a patterned red carpet. It’s all very dull except for the flashing lights blinking from the fruit machine. Basic and dull, it’s not horrifically bad, it’s just uninspiring – even for a basic boozer.
The AtmosphereThe lone rangers at the bar are the sort of people The Old Rose attracts; a few of them could probably fight in the UFC (in fact, a few of them look like they already have). The cheesy 80s classics, however, do break up what would otherwise be a deathly silence and everyone just keeps to themselves blank faced with nothing to do.
The FoodThere is a kitchen and it does serve food, though not a lot, and if the rest of the pub is anything to go by then very little effort will go into your meal.
The DrinkLondon Pride can be bought on draught as well as Carling, Stella, Strongbow, Guinness, Becks, John Smiths, Kronenberg and Fosters on tap. Nothing overly exciting, but enough to stop your thirst.
The Last WordYou’ll do well to feel welcomed at The Old Rose. If you’re looking for a good pub on The Highway you’ll find better alternatives just a short walk away.
