The Pembroke is just around the corner from my house. Exactly the sort of place that you would want as a "local". Sadly though, whilst the menu is good, the drinks are fine, the pub has absolutely lost its way in one key area: friendly local. The staff are curt, disinterested, and clearly just there for the money. The Pembroke used to be a local venue, now its just a cash-cow. It's very sad. All I want is to go to the pub round the corner and have someone be pleasant to me and not treat me like the next quid. These people are unwelcoming, disinterested and at worst a bit rude. Spend your hard earned pounds elsewhere it saddens me to say.

We recently got married in Central London and had our wedding dinner and party at "The Pembroke". The location is perfectly central with the absolute plus of providing a large private space upstairs plus private outdoor space (large rooftop terrace) and private bar and also private washrooms.

Everything went smoothly and very professional, from the initial contact by email, personal meetings, arranging a trial meal, discussing the wine list up to the final billing. Everyone, including managers Daniel and Laurence, and all staff was extremely helpful, accommodating and professional.

They provided us with menu and wine suggestions, table plans and even helped us to arrange for an excellent DJ. Thanks to their professional approach and detailed planning we spend a lovely and relaxing evening without having to worry about anything.

Food and drinks were well prepared, pleasantly presented and excellent quality and value for money.

We were very happy that we chose this venue and also received many enthusiastic comments from our guests.

If you are planning a function in Central London in a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere, look no further.

We had our work Christmas party at the Pembroke on Thursday 17th December 2009, and had an amazing evening. After a few phone calls and a quick visit to the pub to check the venue out, it soon became apparent how accommodating and flexible the pub manager Damon could be. Originally we had arranged for between 60 - 65 people for a sit down 3 course meal, however this soon increased to over 80. However they managed to fit us all in to the downstairs dining area, where we enjoyed the first 2 courses. After these courses we moved to the upstairs area for our desserts. Rather than have set choices, it was suggested to have a dessert buffet of smaller portions for people to pick and choose what they wanted. To compliment the night we had arranged for a member of staff who played in a jazz band to play upstairs after we finished our first 2 courses. The pub staff were on hand to help move some furniture around to fit everything in, even though they had a busy lunch crowd downstairs! The quality of the food for the entire evening was amazing particularly with the amount of people to serve. The dessert buffet upstairs was the icing on the cake, with the selection available spot on.

Staff on the night were so helpful and the tables downstairs were decorated tastefully with the essential Christmas crackers (with bad jokes and funny hats) provided. Damon provided table layouts via email prior to the event which we put names to places and emailed back. On arrival the tables had place settings based on our layouts, so everyone knew where to sit. All in all the night was the best Christmas function we have had and will be booking this venue again for other events in the near future. I can't recommend this pub more highly and many thanks to Damon and the rest of the staff for making it a great night.

We held our annual office party at The Pembroke this year; since our office is just down the road and we often go there for a couple of snifters after work, it was the ideal location. From start to finish, the event was a roaring success. They provided us with a great deal for a three course meal and drinks per head and were entirely accommodating when our numbers erratically changed. The restaurant manager and his team were always available via phone or email to settle any queries and respond to our requests. There was nothing left undone or unseen to in the planning process and they made my job a lot easier and a lot less stressful than it could have been!

On the night, we had exclusive use of the upstairs restaurant which made it very personal and easy for us to kick back and relax. The decorations and table set up were very festive and warm, with candlelit tables and Christmas crackers for each guest. We spent the first hour congregating around our private bar before sitting down to dinner. The food was absolutely fantastic! By any standards, definitely the best pub food I have tasted and similar reviews were given by the majority of our party of thirty. Every plate was polished clean at the end of all three courses and our tables were constantly cleared and wine topped up, creating a perfect environment!

All of the staff were very friendly right up until we left at closing time and I came out thinking what a spectacular feat of an evening it had been, whilst struggling on my own feet, drunk on the fantastic ambience of the evening and their marvellous house wine.I would highly and wholeheartedly recommend this pub to anyone from large groups down to quiet romantic tipples. I only gave five stars because ten wasn't an option.A massive thank you to Halo and his team for making our Christmas party one to remember.
