although it can feel like an airport lounge, with bright and slightly unnerving lighting and beige walls - there is a relaxed and good atmosphere here, and a healthy mixture of regulars. the absence of tv's and music is quite honestly an absolute blessing. with bar billiards, a pool table and lots of other games you won't miss the telly. people actually talk to each other instead! really, it's true.......
the tables are big, everyone has space. the staff are really nice and the food is pretty good. the beer is fantastic - the pubs strongest point, and well worth a visit for this alone. they have a good range of whiskies too.
i think i'll pop down there now infact........ :)

Good food and drinks. Friendly staff. Pool table needs a little maintenance.

Excellent food and excellent service. The Pembury Tavern is also run by a really good couple who seem keen to make it a friendly and welcoming place. They're doing a splendid job as this doesn't feel like a Hackney boozer at all. If you want somewhere genuinely nice to go then try out the Pembury Tavern.

The Pembury is very disappointing. This place advertises that is is child-friendly and it is definitely not. It's smoke free, quiet, spacious which is all great! But the manager does not appear to like kids at all, asking us within 10 minutes of arrival to control our kids. These kids were simply laughing with delight to have met their friends.

But to top it all off he got huffy at us for our small baby starting to fuss. The baby cried for no more than 30 seconds and he was staring us down again. We felt most unwelcome. Further more, the food was overpriced, cold and rubbish. Avoid The Pembury.

I must correct this = The Pembury advertises as "an ADULT-FRIENDLY pub. Under 16s are permitted until 8pm, but must behave QUIETLY, be supervised by their parents at all times, and must not wander around on their own even if their parents can still see them.

Please bear in mind the effect that your children may have on the other customers around you, ESPECIALLY THEIR NOISE. As with any disruptive behaviour, you may be asked to leave if you are disturbing other customers." I for one think this is very fair...
