The ViewLondon Review
Not one of Broadway Market’s finest pubs, The Perseverance only really appeals to die hard locals and football fans.
The Venue
The setting for The Perseverance couldn’t be better, with Broadway Market and London Fields on its doorstep. However, it sticks to the locals that have always inhabited the area and doesn’t look like it intends to indulge itself with an arty new interior anytime soon.
Inside, the horseshoe-shaped bar takes up ample space in the middle of the pub with tables and chairs spread around it to accommodate a good number of people. You couldn’t really call the decor classic because it comes across like a big bare room that happens to have woken up one day with a bar in it. There are TV screens on two walls that show live football.
The Atmosphere
The Perseverance doesn’t appeal to the visitors of Broadway Market because it can’t compete with the quality on the road. In response to this it seems to have turned its back on that crowd to remain monogamous with the local East End punters that continue to turn up to it in their droves. The atmosphere isn’t bad, but the place is best avoided when football is being shown as things deteriorate into a ranting mess - unless you like that kind of thing.
The Drink
The Perseverance serves up the usual spirits and a small selection of wine. The beers on draught include San Miguel, Becks Vier, Carlsberg and Fosters.
The Last Word
Appeals to the locals who have always visited it. The Perseverance is happy not to pull in the tourists and trendies who have decided that this area of East London is now cool.
