The ViewLondon Review
Everyone has an evening when they feel like having a nice, cosy night in. The Phoenix is a great way to have a night out that feels as comfortable as if you were at home – complete with great staff and top notch chefs working away in your kitchen.
The Venue
Hidden away in the heart of Chelsea, The Phoenix embodies the perfect blend of quaint, olde day England with a touch of contemporary decor. The furniture here is wonderfully eclectic, with traditional oak tables here and modern booths complete with leather seats there.
A collection of comfy sofas surrounding a warm and welcoming fireplace creates a great centrepiece for the pub. You could even find yourself being momentarily transported back to a scene from a Charles Dickens novel. The main floor is fairly small but what this restaurant lacks in size, it makes up for in style and service. Plus, there is the option of using the venue’s extra entertainment room, which is to be reserved in advance for all your private functions.
The Atmosphere
From the minute you take your seat at The Phoenix, you will not be able to resist its relaxing effects. With softly lit candles adorning every table and no blaring music to distract you from your present company, this is a fabulous place to spend an evening with friends or taking family out for a relaxing Sunday lunch.
There is no one particular demographic of people to recommend this venue to because this place truly is for everyone. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to see anyone from young couples to children with their parents to the more ‘experienced’ diner. The welcoming and warm atmosphere of this restaurant enables laughs with friends or a quiet cuddle in the corner with your partner. The experience is all enhanced by excellent staff that know their stuff and are only too happy to assist you.
The Food
Dining at The Phoenix feels like being fed by Gordon Ramsey. Serving the very best in high quality cuisine, you could dine here like a celebrity without breaking the bank. Treat yourself to a starter like the Caesar salad with parmesan and croutons for just £4. The combination of sauce with cheese is almost enough to make you consider if you are truly ready for the rest of your meal.
Then dig in to a delicious homemade chicken chasseur with saute potatoes for only £9. A combination of chicken with a soft texture and gravy makes for a pleasant eating experience. This also comes with a salad. And finally, go all out with a heavenly chocolate fondant for £5. With its chocolate sponge exterior and hot, gooey, creamy goodness waiting inside, this devilishly decadent dessert is certain to set your taste buds on a rollercoaster ride to pure chocolate hell. And would that be so bad?
The Drink
The Phoenix excels in its wine selection. With a carefully selected range, the quality of wine is 5 star. Some of the venue’s most popular is the part Sauvignon part Semillon Mchenry Hohnen from Australia. This tangy sensation of citrus fruits with a hint of lychee will cost you £5.90 (£16.80 bottle).
If you prefer something a little sweeter, an alternative option would be the French Chablis Simonet. This has a much sharper taste to the Sauvignon and is much sweeter, leaving a somewhat bitter aftertaste. This tangtastic pleasure will cost you £7 (£20 bottle).
The Last Word
Admittedly the Phoenix is tucked away, but not to the extent of being unable to locate it. Instead, it’s rather like a pearl in its shell waiting to be discovered.
