Staying in a hotel near by. First night group was served Irish coffees that were obviously made by a complete simpleton. Also extreme micro measures. Another night tried to order food...waitress was almost alarmed we wanted to order food, and barman was hostile and rude. Cancelled food. They should probably have a training day for the inept and ignorant staff especially being called the Pride of Paddington. Probably fine for a pint out of a dirty glass! Unwelcoming and unatmospheric. Also the owner should probably check spellings before responding to dissatisfied customers online. It doesn't look very professional responding with aggressive text littered with spelling mistakes.
If I could give it no star rating I would.
On a recent visit I needed to pay the bill using my credit card. The transaction could not go through because "the boss was on the phone". I was told that they will keep the card at the till until the phone line clears. When I asked to explain why they think they should do that, I was told that "in case we run away they would be left with the bill". I asked if it was right for them to expect I should trust them with my credit card when they obviously don't trust me. I was then told in a very rude and abrupt tone that I "better get the cash from the ATM machine". At no time was there any apology for the inconvenience I was caused and once I produced the cash (as we already ordered some drinks) I was given change without even a "thank you". I could not make any allowances for overworked staff under pressure as it was lunchtime on a Wednesday and the pub was practically empty. Will definitely never go there again.
Great pub, great food (best fish & chips my husband ever had) friendly staff and locals. Great beer & cider, footy on t.v, so-daggy- it's-kinda-cool music playing. Spent a few evenings here - wish we had more. Would love to be a 'local' at the Pride and still regret not getting the t-shirt!
Very ,nice pub according to me,, good atmosphere, nice staff, was really ok!
It was an awful evening.
First of all the pub is very noisy and is like a canteen.
But the main thing is, I gave them 20 pounds and they said I gave 10!
I was absolutely sure of what I gave them because 2 minutes before I went to the ATP for money. It was funny because when I said that I will add some comments on Internet, I was very surprise to hear from the manager that all the customers say that. Is that mean that they use to do that and I am not the only one?
At the end, he told that that he will refuse to serve us in the future…. Did they think that I want come back after that? :-)
This was my local for a couple of nights in 2003 when I stayed at a hotel up the road.
I didnt sample the food but the beer was okay,(could've been colder! It's a northern thing!!) the atmosphere wasnt too bad and the staff were pretty friendly. well apart from one but never mind, You get that everywhere.
I went to the Pride of Paddington Pub in November 2003. I ordered a roast lamb dinner and a pint for myself. My credit card bill (9 pounds 80 pence) was timed stamped at 1356 hours. At 1435 hours, after inquiring 3 times where the food was, I left.
A couple who sat opposite me and who came in after me and were served within 10-15 minutes. I told this to one of the pub staff who said that was not true. After she left, assuring me I would be served next, they both looked over at me and shrugged. I waited another 2 minutes and told some gents who were looking for a seat to enjoy my lamb dinner since it was prepaid and that I would be dealing with MasterCard.
