Staying in a hotel near by. First night group was served Irish coffees that were obviously made by a complete simpleton. Also extreme micro measures. Another night tried to order food...waitress was almost alarmed we wanted to order food, and barman was hostile and rude. Cancelled food. They should probably have a training day for the inept and ignorant staff especially being called the Pride of Paddington. Probably fine for a pint out of a dirty glass! Unwelcoming and unatmospheric. Also the owner should probably check spellings before responding to dissatisfied customers online. It doesn't look very professional responding with aggressive text littered with spelling mistakes.

If I could give it no star rating I would.
On a recent visit I needed to pay the bill using my credit card. The transaction could not go through because "the boss was on the phone". I was told that they will keep the card at the till until the phone line clears. When I asked to explain why they think they should do that, I was told that "in case we run away they would be left with the bill". I asked if it was right for them to expect I should trust them with my credit card when they obviously don't trust me. I was then told in a very rude and abrupt tone that I "better get the cash from the ATM machine". At no time was there any apology for the inconvenience I was caused and once I produced the cash (as we already ordered some drinks) I was given change without even a "thank you". I could not make any allowances for overworked staff under pressure as it was lunchtime on a Wednesday and the pub was practically empty. Will definitely never go there again.

I had a very bad experience last Friday 24-04-09. I wanted to have a typical London night in this pub.

but a had a very bad night with the waiter(if you can call him this). we where waiting 20-30min.

for a table and my son 15years old did not want to wait so much so he went for a KEPPAB front.

when we got a table and wanted to order the drinks and something to eat. my wife came saying that the waiter did not leave my son eat with us.

The bad of all is how this person talked to us. and came out to the street like a mad man fallowing us .

I understand its not normal what my son did but the waiter was much more older.I will definitely never go there.

Great pub, great food (best fish & chips my husband ever had) friendly staff and locals. Great beer & cider, footy on t.v, so-daggy- it's-kinda-cool music playing. Spent a few evenings here - wish we had more. Would love to be a 'local' at the Pride and still regret not getting the t-shirt!

It was an awful evening.
First of all the pub is very noisy and is like a canteen.
But the main thing is, I gave them 20 pounds and they said I gave 10!
I was absolutely sure of what I gave them because 2 minutes before I went to the ATP for money. It was funny because when I said that I will add some comments on Internet, I was very surprise to hear from the manager that all the customers say that. Is that mean that they use to do that and I am not the only one?
At the end, he told that that he will refuse to serve us in the future…. Did they think that I want come back after that? :-)

well in response to that stupid acusation i cant belive you would do something like this. We gave you all of the relevant infomation so that the police could come and see the cctv camara which would prove perfectly that you DID only give me a £10 note not £20 note so in the futer make sure that you tell the whole truth not some stupid completly un proven acusation like this and if you hated it soo much then why did you stay in the pub all night

I was at this pub with a friend (see comments below). The answer of the owner of this pub just confirm that his CCTV doesn’t work at all and/or he doesn’t know how to use it or…. We left exactly at 7.30 (we have a dinner with friends after…). We just stayed to drink this most expensive beer we never had before, that is it. The owner of this pub gave us wrong information from his CCTV (time was not the right time at all and to justified this he said that it was the old time and he already knows that, but that was not a problem at all..). This man will have to explain us how to claim to a police with wrong information! He just gave us the CCTV’s references he wants to be sure we can’t prove anything! Very easy, isn’t it? In addition of that, we stay 20 minutes talking and waiting for him to have a look on his CCTV. In 20 minute, he said that he checked the CCTV and, as he served 4 persons, he can confirm that we only gave the waiter 10 pounds… 4 people in 20 minutes? For a Friday evening??? I will let the readers choose what to understand… :-). To answer to his last sentence “if you hated it soo much then why did you stay in the pub all night”, I will just remind him that he told us that you will REFUSE to serve us in the futur… Is that mean that we stayed all the night with just one beer??? This man is really amasing. And again, I suggest him to look again on his CCTT… he will see that we left at 7.30 and not stayed all the night, but for that the CCTV has to be set correctely!!!!

This was my local for a couple of nights in 2003 when I stayed at a hotel up the road.
I didnt sample the food but the beer was okay,(could've been colder! It's a northern thing!!) the atmosphere wasnt too bad and the staff were pretty friendly. well apart from one but never mind, You get that everywhere.

I went to the Pride of Paddington Pub in November 2003. I ordered a roast lamb dinner and a pint for myself. My credit card bill (9 pounds 80 pence) was timed stamped at 1356 hours. At 1435 hours, after inquiring 3 times where the food was, I left.

A couple who sat opposite me and who came in after me and were served within 10-15 minutes. I told this to one of the pub staff who said that was not true. After she left, assuring me I would be served next, they both looked over at me and shrugged. I waited another 2 minutes and told some gents who were looking for a seat to enjoy my lamb dinner since it was prepaid and that I would be dealing with MasterCard.
