The ViewLondon Review
The Prince Regent is a regal-looking pub situated on the corner of Marylebone High Street and Nottingham Place.
The Venue
This statuesque pub sits in the middle of Marylebone Village, surrounded by pretty boutique shops, and it is an imposing, large building with a royal blue trim, gold lettering and high arched windows. Outside there are a few tables littering the pavement, and this isn't a bad place to sit in the summer. Once inside, the recently refurbished decor also has a feeling of grandeur, with crimson-draped windows and sparkling chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. For those fearing they may have to wear their posh garms just to get in, don’t worry - the pub is still your typical boozer and you’ll feel quite at home here in your jeans and trainers.
The Atmosphere
As it’s part of a local community and bustling shopping district, The Prince Regent attracts a variety of customers, including post work masses guzzling away their worries, local residents supping a pint quietly in the corner, and frazzled shoppers laden with bags taking the weight off their feet. The busiest times are after-work on Thursdays and Fridays, and peak shopping hours at weekends.
There is also a private bar called the Opium Lounge upstairs, which is available for hire (with a minimum spend). Contact the pub for details.
The Food
The Prince Regent specialises in fresh, seasonal pub food. The menu is above average for pubs in the area and you can find smaller dishes such as calamari with a tartar dip (£4.25), as well as more substantial dishes like the fish stew with cod fillet, mussels and clams (£10). If you have a sweet tooth there is a decent range of puddings on offer, including a delicious mascarpone cheese cake costing £3.75. The pub also offers a fixed price menu costing £5.95 (one course), £7.95 (two courses) and £9.95 (three courses) respectively.
On Sundays, you can enjoy a roast with a choice of meats and a selection of vegetables. These cost between £9.50 and £10, which is very reasonable for the area. During busy times the kitchen can take a while to dish up the food, so don’t come here if you’re in a hurry to eat.
The Drink
The Prince Regent prides itself on its extensive beer and wine list, and special offers are promoted around the bar. On Tuesdays they run a ‘wine special’, where you can buy any bottle of wine for £11.95. Not a bad deal considering the majority of bottles are £13 and upwards. Real Ales on tap include London Pride, The Rev. James, and Adnams bitter. Guest ales are also in operation and these are rotated regularly. All the usual spirits and mixers are available, and a special bloody Mary is recommended to go with a roast on Sunday.
The Last Word
A big, bustling pub in a busy area. With its wide selection of food and drink, The Prince Regent is well worth a visit
