strange place, but it works really well. Nice dining room at the back that has awesome Sunday lunches and very 'pubby' front room that manages to be chilled and not pretentiously gastro! really like it, fast becoming a favourite!
This is a big old pub, full of lots of dark wood, high ceilings, stained glass windows and comfy sofas. It's recently smartened up its act and started serving really good food. Typical gastropub type stuff - yummy roasts, casseroles, big salads etc. Nice wine and beer selection too. Had a really nice day with friends a week ago sat out in the new refurbished beer garden where there is a bbq throughout the day which offers a wide selection of burgers and vegetarian options. I spend alot of time in Crouch End and i have to say this is without a doubt my favorite pub in the area, it's received a lot of criticism in recent years but the place has really been turned around and i highly reconmend you head down see for yourself.
Amazing place! love it to bits. even tho we live in East London we will always go there when seeing friends from Crouch end. Ace!
The Queens obviously hasn't been reviewed for a while! I went the other day and found it refreshingly friendly with staff that are good at what they do and food that tastes great!
The food was simple, fresh gastro fayre with fish & chips battered to perfection and a deliscious lamb burger that came with lovely garlicy tzatziki. Although the restaurant was quiet (we had drinks beforehand in the garden and that was a hive of activity) the atmosphere was perfect and the service spot on without being overbearing.
We particularly liked the Eton mess with mixed berries and the grilled sardines to start.
Having just moved to the area and checking out the locals i can say so far this has come out the best. We loved the building, the food and the service and can't wait to return!
The Queens is a perfect example of how a beautiful pub in a relatively well-off area can get it so wrong by employing under-trained staff who clearly don't want to be there. Our party of 10 (mixed age from 22 - 60's) found the apathy of the staff, who seem to be competing to ignore the customers, absolutely breathtaking. The only eye-contact was a defiant one when we (politely) complained that the white wine wasn't chilled. We got a big sigh and had an ice-bucket slammed down in front of us. They're not just rude in the Queen's, they're provocative. Avoid, at least until they have new management.
Tried this place for the first time the other day. It looks great, nice and cosy, beautiful old fashioned bar etc but it was a bit cold.
The food was lovely, but they messed up our order and refused to accept responsibilty for it. The bar staff tried to make out the fault was with us, and didn't even apologise when their mistake meant that my food turned up after everyone else had finished theirs. We had to clear our table ourselves too, even though the place was practically empty.
Shame really, seemed to be so promising, and with just a bit of work could be a great place.
The Queens Pub & Dining Room is a very nice pub, quite impressive looking, non smoking area in the restaurant part, very nice food, but portions at The Queens Pub & Dining Room are quite small...
I haven't been to The Queens since last summer as the beer garden in my opinion is one of the only reasons to go. It's fairly dingy inside (or at least it was 7 months ago) and the music they played was god awful. Roll on summer is all I can say - out of hibernation and back into The Queens for me!
