Well, what a nice surprise. After avoiding this venue for fear of being trampled on by millions of rugby/football fans like when it was The Tup, I was attracted from the High Road by the twinkly lights that caught my eye.
I wandered in to find a very pleasant transformation had taken place... The Regent still has big screens for sport (which means there are still lots of attractive men), but when I ended up staying for drink after drink with a girlfriend, a football match came on and was only shown at the far end of the pub... leaving us girls at the other end of the bar to enjoy some peaceful chat time with tea-lights on all the tables.
We liked it so much we stayed for hours and had some lovely food. I went for the smorgasbord and can honestly say it was delicious - I never even dared eat there when it was The Tup - but it could not be more different now!
Lovely food, beautiful wine, and tasty men. Girls - you're missing out! I am really looking forward to going back and checking out the cocktail menu!
Was there for Super Sunday football and was totally disappointed. As far to say they ruined my super Sunday. Not enough staff. Rude staff. Will not be returning.
The general feel about the establishment was mutual with most patrons. Could not believe how long it took to get refreshments. One half of the bar was closed for no apparent reason. Found it difficult if not impossible to navigate around the premises. Which i feel represented itself with the lack of atmosphere once people where completely "over it"
On a good note when i approached the manager he dealt with my concerns in a courteous manner, if not for the eaves dropping staff member that should have been doing his job rather than arguing with me.
Will not be returning or advising any colleagues to visit during sporting events as i notice comments are ok for this pub just for dinner and drinks.
The food was great and service was even better,We had an Irish girl called roisin serving us and she was a credit to the Bar.Would go back agin any time and have recommended it to all my friends and work colleagues.

Love the Regent. Much better than the old Tup, great menu and awesome for sport. Watched England v Australia here in the summer, early morning kick-off so the Full English was called for. Was so impressed I came back for a football match a few weeks later and had the chicken burger with cheese. Again excellent. Love this place. Barmaids are tasty too.
Good night, but bar staff are very slow to serve despite not being that busy. They have a tendency to look straight through you! One actually spent about 10 minutes spooning mayonnaise into tiny pots while eyeing up all of us waiting to be served! That said, big up to the GM for turning the music down when asked! It was absolutely deafening. To have to yell to be heard by your friends is distinctly unpleasant.
I was at The Regent last Sunday evening with a group of friends. The food was great (I had fish & chips), we received full table service from really friendly staff and didn't have to get up for drinks all night! We ended up staying much longer then anticipated as the live music was excellent and we ended up spending the evening there instead of moving on. Would definitely recommend!
Terrible pub. I thought it would have been an improvement on the tup.
But with the average customers not being able to hold their drink and staff still serving drunks, it was a horrible night that is worth avoiding. I'm sorry but that was just my experience.
When the the old Balham Tup reopened recently as The Regent I was glad to have a local back and glad of the changes. The sport is still there, with 2 projector screens and LCD tvs too, but now there is also a focus on good food and good hospitality. The staff is always helpful and friendly and always ready for a chat and together with the comfortable new decor and the wide selection of beers make this a relaxing place to spend an afternoon or an evening.
I was at the Regent last week and the atmosphere was great, the food was lovely, and the full table service was fantastic. All in all it was a great night. I'll definitely go there again.
