Among the history and elegance of The Strand, The Savoy Tup keeps a visit to the pub as cost effective as possible.

The Venue
The Savoy Tup pops up in the picturesque district of The Strand and with the skyline from the street featuring the triumphant Lord Nelson on the horizon, the walk is all part of its charm. At the top of Savoy Passage, you’ll find the pub is easy to spot by its copious foliage that spills out of the window boxes above the green and pale yellow facade.

Inside, the pub is simple without being plain and there’s a certain makeshift nature to it all. The shiny black stone floor and scarlet walls add passion to the limited appeal of the faded wooden furnishings, creating a cosiness that you wouldn’t have expected at first glance. You may find little to gush about as far as the decor goes but in the case of The Savoy Tup it’s all about the atmosphere.

The Atmosphere
Daytimes are slow but soothing at The Savoy Tup, and patrons nurse their drinks slowly to soak up the calm. The clientele is a mixture of business types from the nearby slew of Chambers and huddles of female groups. The staff are as friendly as you’ll find and match the pub’s own welcoming approach to business.

Tuesdays give you the opportunity to play as much pool as you like for free and there are Nintendo Wii tournaments held sporadically. Big screens regularly show sporting events. Interestingly, although they serve no food here, they’re happy for you to bring in your own – ideal if you’re popping in for a pint at lunch.

The Drink
Generosity probably isn’t a word that goes hand in hand with too many businesses but it seems to fit well here. Among the host of promotions that work in a self serving manner for the pub and the punters, are 2-4-1 basic cocktails every day from 5pm onwards and £10 bottles of wine between 5pm-8pm. There is a good range of lager on tap that includes Staropramen, Becks Vier, Stella and Fosters and there is always a guest ale to join the London Pride and Bombardier ales.

The Last Word
The Savoy Tup is an unusual anomaly in this gentrified part of town and its warming integrity leaves you with an urge to return.
