The best juke box in the area by a really long way, sometimes free too. It's usually busy but you can always get a seat. The quiz (mondays) is fun, relatively hard but different teams win every week. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Gem of a place. A real authentic boozer that probably hasn't changed at all in the last 50 years (with the possible exception of the fine Czech lagers on draught and the lovely east European bar staff).

You absolutely have to come here with a paper on your own on a sunny early saturday afternoon and feel what being a chap is really all about.

I hear they have a very good quiz (on wednesdays I think) which I shall be checking out shortly.

Rest assured that the only food on offer comprises of pickled eggs, pickled mussels and cheese and onion crisps (so smints an essential going home snack)

Clientele - total mix of new Hackney young professional, student and local.

Also outdoor seating at the front and the back.

What a great boozer The Shakespeare turned out to be! A few of the lads and I found ourselves in what has to be one of Stoke Newington's best bars. I felt I was in Jamaica with all the Bob bursting out of the jukebox at The Shakespeare - you won't find wailers here!
