Small crowded bar. Over charged for a glass of wine.

Well, you might think that a pub on Carnaby St. would be a tacky tourist trap and a far cry from traditional British pubs. Although the place is full of tourist, the upstairs restaurant serves up a delicious and well executed menu of all your traditional favorite English dishes; from meat pies and fish & chips to bangers & mash and mushy peas (a favorite among the locals, at least the local I was with).

On a cold Saturday afternoon in Oct, my friends and I, hungry, tired, and worn out from trying to get into any place to have afternoon tea without waiting for 2 hrs, decided on a whim to just walk in and grab a pint and maybe a bite to eat. While we really were not expecting too much, to our surprise the pub served a wide selection of traditional english dishes that were great on taste, portion size, and value. The fish used in the fish & chips was fresh, the meat pies were tasty, and overall the warm comfort food hit the spot perfectly. The place is full of tourist but the servers are friendly to complement the laid-back, unpretentious atmosphere of the place.

So if you are tired after a day of shopping and taking in the sights around Oxford Circus, grab your friends and head to this pub. After a few pints and some warm homestyle cooking, you will feel fully refreshed and satisfied (maybe a bit more british as well).

Shakespeare's Head is a spacious pub in an old building with loads of character and a large open fire. You can quite happily sit outside and watch the world go by. The pub's very popular with tourists and gets packed on weekends and evenings.
The best time to visit is when you can get a seat.
