This tiny local is a local pub for local people. The Shepherd and Flock is quaint, but not overly friendly.

The Venue
The interior of The Shepherd and Flock hasn’t had its history eradicated through insensitive modernisation like so many other historic pubs.

This pub has original Victorian woodwork – a beautiful carved wooden bar with columns, pediments and stunning Tiffany lamps. Green leather benches are separated by carved wood and stained-glass panels. A lovely sculpted and painted wooden ceiling sits high above your head. It is all very well maintained and any updating has been carefully done. This is a proper old-school boozer with some history.

The Atmosphere
Some of the patrons at The Shepherd and Flock look like they’ve been here since the pub opened all those years ago. It's not particularly welcoming, all of the regulars are served at the bar before you. However, the servers are efficient, pouring several pints at once, so the wait isn’t too long. Horse racing is often played on the flat screen TV for punters.

The Drink
Carlsberg, Carling, and Guinness are a few choices in draught beer at The Shepherd and Flock. No surprises here at inexpensive prices. A limited selection of wine is available and all the usual spirits. All that said, everyone is drinking pints and you wouldn’t order a caipirinha.

The Last Word
It’s worth the price of a drink to see the beautiful original features of The Shepherd and Flock, but you may not find yourself staying for much longer than one drink.
