This is a really great pub- especially in the summer when you can sit outside by the river and enjoy the BBQ. The restaurant is also great in the evening and really surpasses what you would expect from a Young's pub. Its always very busy and lively which makes it a great place to go out.
All in all a fantastic pub, and judging by the crowds I'm not alone in thinking that.
The Ship in Wandsworth has a beautiful outside eating and drinking area, and it must be one of the best places in London to spend an afternoon or evening dining and wining, the food is of the highest quality and service to match.
There is a no frills barbeque area outside and a well appointed restaurant inside.
Last Sunday they had two bands on, one during the afternoon, outside, and one later in the evening, inside, all of the entertainment was free.
There were 4 in our party and we eat inside in the restaurant. We had four mains and four deserts, all beautifully presented and served.
If I had to pick dish out for special mention it would have to be the the crispy pork belly.
The Chef's signature dish by all accounts, and take a bow lad, this dish is worthy of a five star restaurant.
It wouldn't surprise me to hear that people travel to this pub for this dish. I had the steak, it was as good as it gets, another of us had the Sunday Roast, great portions, well served.
Everything was top class really and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a hassle free Sunday on the river in London.
Absolutely disgraceful service - I have never, ever, been spoken to by waiting staff in the way that two or three of the waitresses in The Ship spoke to me yesterday.
Litany of disasters really, and we ended up walking out without eating anything. Our order was not written down, was miscommunicated, and then was lost.
We were told that we had to find the original waitress to re-order our food. Our drinks order was forgotten about, and then when we reminded the staff, the order was resentfully banged onto the table.
Then, after an hour's wait, two main courses turned up before the starters. "That's how it is here," was the response from the waitress.
"Sometimes starters take longer to make than mains." WHAT?? This isn't Wagamama! When we told the staff that we were leaving, they got very aggressive and told us that we were stupid because we'd happened to order from two different members of staff.
Stupid! For chasing an order! Amazing. The general attitude of the waiting staff was astonishing.
They were so rude! It was very much a case of communicating their sense of personal hassle.
Lots of tutting, rolling of eyes and heavy sighing whenever we asked for anything. In short, a terrible experience.
We won't be going to The Ship again. We won't be recommending that anyone else goes to The Ship. We will be telling lots of people how dreadful the service at The Ship is (I can't comment on the food, as we didn't have any. I can grudgingly say that other people's looked quite nice).
In fact, make the 'p' at the end of The Ship a 't' and you'll have how we now refer to the place in our home. Very disappointing.
A really great British pub. Considering it's practically in the middle of nowhere it's hard to work out where all the people are coming from. Full of cute girls in the big bar, barbecue chefs outside serving scores of people. Youngs bitter exceptional at £2.70. Staff were of the pretty variety but quite efficient and smiley, considering it was packed there was never any wait at the bar. This pub makes a change from the boring, quiet pubs I've had to endure recently. Very highly recommended.
I've had some great meals at The Ship in the past, but the last couple of times I have been for lunch at the weekend the food has been pretty nasty - avoid the bangers and mash and the burgers.
Plus, the service at The Ship is terrible. What is going on? Please don't let your standards slip or we'll have to go to The Alma all the time instead.
The Ship is a great venue to watch fireworks on Guy Fawkes night.
I love The Ship - especially in the summer as the outdoor section and BBQ by the river really come into their own. You might not think it from where it is but this is an absolutely excellent and buzzing pub. Highly recommended!
