This pub is horrible place. The manager of the pub is rude and very unfriendly to customers - that is no customer service. You think she would be nice and friendly to her customer. There was a blonde bar made who wears tracksuit bottoms who was trying to flirt with my boyfriend leaning over the bar trying to flaunt her boobs to all the guys. Plus the food is gross and over priced!
Been there a few times over the years... and always then wonder why I bothered. Majorty of the staff are friendly, but there is usually the grumpy landlady not too far away. If it wasn't for the worry of getting a good hiding from her I would be tempted to suggest that service with a smile, especially when you own the place, is always a positive....
In terms of the beer, its ok. You will be drinking it in a relatively dated environment though (even with the recent, cheaply done, refit) and will have paid approaching £8 for 2 pints of whatever you go for which is more expensive than some of the other places very nearby.
All in all there is no reason to drink there that I can tell. If I were you I would head 2 minutes down the road to the river and have a beer there where you will pay less, maybe get a smile (or at least not feel unwelcome) and most probably be in somewhere that apprecaites you spending your hard earned with them!
Absolutely terrible Pub with awful customer service! I would never go in there again, we arrived with friends one of us was waiting at the bar and the girls went to the toilet, as the girls went to go to the toilet they got jumped on by the extremely rude manager and were told they needed to buy a drink before using the toilet. Well we were waiting at the bar to order drinks and we said this to the manager who was extremely rude to us! She has absolutely no customer service skills and is clearly in the wrong profession! The other blonde barmaid who draped her self over the bar adjusting her bra straps and doing nothing but flirting with the customer was also terribly rude! Surely in a customer facing role you would employ people who have some customer service skills/ people skills in general. Im so disappointed and would highly urge people not to drink in this terrible place.
Bar girl followed me into the toilet (yes into the toilet) to tell me I needed to buy a drink before I could use the restroom...
I said I was buying one when I had been to the loo... I was then screamed at and told to buy a drink Now or get out... nice girl!
Can't comment on the beer as I did not get a chance to taste it!
Pub look nice from the out side a little shoddy but Ok inside... and resident psycho bar staff! Recommended… Not!
Great pub. My husband and I stopped in for a pint and had a wonderful chat with the bartender one Sunday evening. He was a very friendly and funny young man. Stop and see him some time.
Thankfully the Shipwright Arms hasn't changed into one of the trendy places in the area. The gorgeous exterior really stands out amongst the old brick warehouses and trendy new buildings. The interior is a nautical theme and the atmosphere is really friendly. The Shipright Arms is a good local boozer.
