The ViewLondon Review
Silver Bullet started in 2010 as a pop-up venue. Thank goodness it didn’t pop back down. Now a permanent live music bar, it offers a whole host of extremely entertaining nights fueled by a great deal of effort from the zealous team running it.
The Venue
Silver Bullet sits opposite Finsbury Park station on Station Place. It’s absolutely impossible to miss and it’s very easy to stumble back to catch your train or bus when you feel like ending the fun.
It’s a small pub-style venue with scribbled children’s drawings on the walls, mismatched furniture and a dance floor. Once you enter, you’re immediately greeted with a small, very well-stocked bar. Towards the back is the dance floor frequented by various DJs and live music acts. Off the dance floor are the loos. These are so nice that fellow attendees are left perplexed (in a good way) as horrible toilets at live music venues tend to be par for the course. Not so at Silver Bullet.
The Atmosphere
A very friendly crowd with a common goal – to have as much fun as possible, have a drink and a boogie. The team running it are dedicated to their original philosophy of providing a great mix of the best music genres and high quality acts. They’re all very upbeat and appear to be enjoying themselves as much as their patrons. In addition, the bar staff are grafters, attentive and always working to ensure the place looks spic and span.
The Music
This place is ALL about the music. There’s a regular jazz night on a Tuesday with live jazz jamming; open mic on Wednesdays; Thursdays explore different genres, including rock and roll, dubstep and electro; while Fridays and Saturdays are committed to even more DJs and live bands. Check the website or the posters plastered all over the bar for specific listings. Every so often there’s even a ‘musical Sunday roasting’ that plays around with funky garage, grime and electro. Phew! If you can’t find something among all of that to get you dancing, you’re in the wrong place.
Entry tends to be around £3-£5, but some nights are free and most nights are free before 10pm. Get there early and be in for the long haul and the Silver Bullet definitely won’t burn your pockets.
The Food
Silver Bullet has a deal with a local pizza house that allows you to get a wood smoked 12” delivered to the bar. A great idea.
The Drink
Reasonably priced beers, wines and spirits are on offer. It’s £4 for a house spirit and mixer and it costs £1.50 extra to double it. There’s also a choice of five draught beers and plenty of bottles. Refrigerated Jaegermeister is on hand to get the party started or turn your night into a messy one. Happy hour runs 6-8pm everyday, and offers are available on house wine, house spirits and mixer, or bottles of Bud.
The Last Word
Get yourselves over to Finsbury Park and let this energetic bunch plan your musical diary. They’ve thought of everything.
