The ViewLondon Review
Nestling amongst a plethora of over-styled, over-priced West End venues, The Social is a diamond of a bar with reasonably priced food and drink and a lively, unpretentious atmosphere. The VenueDespite its West End location, Little Portland Street is a relatively quiet affair and if you didn’t know where you were headed you’d be unlikely to notice this ‘blink and you miss it’ bar with its opaque front and only the smallest sign signifying its existence. But that’s the beauty of this great little boozer - it’s packed to the rafters because of word of mouth, not because it screams look at me! Once inside, you follow a small corridor into the snug low-lit diner, kitted out with five red leather booths, a well stocked bar and walls lined with contemporary art works.
The AtmosphereLaid back and intimate, The Social is non-flashy and non-pretentious - the perfect spot for a cosy lunch during the day, when the air is filled with lively chatter from the local boho clientele. Come knocking off time it’s the place to head to for a few after work pints (although the suited and booted look is rare around here). The downstairs DJ bar is open six nights a week, and there are regular karaoke nights and live music, accompanied by a fabulous party atmosphere. The friendly and relaxed bar staff suit the place down to the ground.
The FoodAt The Social you can fill your boots with a great selection of comfort food that’ll soak up any excess gin ‘n’ tonic - think square pies, nachos and other delicious snacks to munch on.
The DrinkThere are more than enough shots, spirits, ciders, beers, wines and champagnes at The Social to keep you busy for an evening. In fact, it’s pretty tricky not to get carried away with the range of 20 cocktails, which for the area are no less than bargain basement.
The Last WordAll in all, The Social is everything you could need for a fantasic and rare night out in the West End.
