I highly recommend the Three Crowns. They have a nice wine list and tasty bloody Mary's. The food is fantastic. The portions are generous and cooked as a roast should be. Nice music, good customer service, the staff are extremely friendly and it seemed like the Manager had a real pride in the place.(with the exception of the Blondie unfriendly waitress who smells very bad!! Someone should tell her to take a shower).I will definitely visit again when back in the area.4 stars.
well today i went with a friend to the three crowns, from the interior and the decor of the place we really felt we was in for a right treat, but unfortunatly how dissapoited was we. I felt along with my friend that the lunch menu was somewhat confused, sardines with toast no thanks. So i had the burger i asked for it medium it came well done, if i want it well done id of gone McDonald's, i really think you teach your chefs how to cook!!
The mayonnaise looked like it had sat in the ramekin for over a week, i was very upset, like i said i though we was in for a treat as it is such a nice pub, the waiter was great but the guy behind the bar didnt have a clue when i was asking him for information about the menu.
id go again but i do hope it vastly improves the standard of the food!
Only last year I would have given this pub a full 5-star rating but the place seems to have come under new management. Sometimes new management is good and sometimes it is bad. This time, it is bad.
When we first arrived in Stokey last year it was a regular haunt for us of a weekday afternoon for coffees, hot chocolates, nibbles and then weekday dinners. The food was always good.
In the last month I have met people here for dinner twice and can say I won't be meeting anyone there for dinner again. The menu - despite have the day's date on it - hardly changes. The attempt at more upmarket food falls flat: 'Chilli (and something I can't remember) Poussin & Shoestring fries = chicken and chips. It's not even good chicken and chips, it's decidedly average since the flavouring on the Poussin is just on the skin and as soon as you've done with that it's just a lot of (dry) white meat. The shoestring fries (or whatever they called them) were a stupid idea too. Since they are so thin they go cold almost as soon as the waitress has placed the plate down.
The slow roast belly pork was equally disappointing. First things first, it clearly wasn't slow roasted - the fat hadn't rendered down at all. I can't even remember what else was on the plate, but I will say that I ordered a side of "fat chips" which, for £3-4 was a rip off. You get about 6 chips, don't bother.
Nothing was helped by the waitress, who forgot almost everything. It took us a full 10 minutes to get mayonaise & ketchup out of her, and she obviously forgot to order my side of chips (and lied about it -- "they're just coming") since they arrived almost as soon as i was about to finish my plate!
So no more dinners there for us. And, no more afternoons either since I recently discovered that they now don't do soy milk. Big mistake in this part of town I think. I often used to go in for hot drinks with soy and stay for hours re-ordering.
Take your money elsewhere, the new manager obviously does
I would just like to write on a report on what I can honestly say is the worse, most overpriced roast dinner I have eaten for some time. Having lived in N16 for the past few years I have pretty much tried all the roast dinners in the pubs within the area. I went on the 14/11/2010 for a roast meal and was immediately very unhappy. We were shown to our table and ordered a meal. When my chicken roast turned up the first thing I immediately noticed was that it came with no vegetables and just a small amount of red cabbage. The whole meal was actually cold and tasteless, it had no flavour and was a massive let down - especially considering it was going to cost over 14 pounds once the service charge was added. We requested the bill and were also kept waiting for over 20 minutes.
All in all I would never return and would highly recommend that people venture across the road to the Jolly Butcher where they will find a much more reasonably priced, far tastier alternative.

The Three Crowns do excellent real ales and if that's not a good reason to go I'm not sure what is. What's wrong with all you people drinking stella - doesn't it sting your eyes and make you feel crappy like it does to me? Try a night on ale and see how you get on. You might as well try it at The Three Crowns as you'll be in fine company!
You Stokey lot are a lucky lot - The Three Crowns is the third place that I've eaten in and it's just as good as the other two! Excellent food and genuinely pleasant service makes a trip here definitely worthwhile. It's a gastro pub but you can easily get lost in the Three Crowns for an afternoon. Good beer selection.
