We had Sunday Lunch last weekend and had a fantastic meal out in the garden. Huge Roast Chicken and yes it was free range! Really good value for money, we will be back. Children are also well looked after and tolerated!

We were so disappointed with our meal at the Victoria Stakes - the menue looked promising. The prices were high for a fairly average pub so just to be sure I asked if the chicken and eggs they were using were free range (assuming that when they are charging £13.50 for a simple chicken dish they would be). The waitress came back and said no! This must be the only place in Crouch End not offering free range meat. So we stuck to the veggie options! I ordered a £5.55 glass of Chillean Sauvignon and sent it back as it tasted off - when we finally got the bill they had charged us for this glass! The waitress refused to deduct the cost of the wine so I asked to speak with the manager who then came over and tried to pick a fight with us! Seriously. I am still in shock! When do people do that in restaurants? I thought the customer was always right? We were happy to pay for what we had actually consumed. The food was way below average and massively over priced. We didn't complain as it just didn't seeem worth it! After the manageress finally agreed to deduct the wine (the total bill was around £60) she then stormed off in a surly strop, not even saying she hoped we would come back again etc etc. We were made to feel very unwelcome! All very unpleasant and such a shame as we live locally and will now never set foot in The Victoria Stakes again. If you want a disappointing, over priced meal with surly service then be sure to try the Victoria Stakes!

Victoria Stakes is such a lovely venue - the food on offer is yummy and the staff very, very pleasant indeed. It's the kind of place where you are so impressed that you tell your friends and I will certainly be telling them about The Victoria Stakes.

Victoria Stakes is the perfect place to have a long lazy lunch, which is exactly what me and a friend did recently. The big comfy leather sofas were a dream to sink into and let your food go down.


The food was pretty good - just regular gastro-pub kind of fare, but it certainly did the job for us. I'd recommend Victoria Stakes to anyone who's after a relaxed environment in which to eat.
