Cheapish drink and early dancing in Central London. Your enjoyment of The Warwick will be enhanced if you work in a local office and come with your workmates. Like the majority of punters here.The VenueThere seems to be a lot of these sorts of bars around Piccadilly Circus. If you know what I mean by ‘these sorts of bars’, you’re probably better off avoiding The Warwick. Rammed by 6pm, you could imagine David Brent here, if he were real and worked in an office in Central London. This revelation shouldn’t necessary prompt your heart to sink. Indeed, if you work opposite, it’s an ideal venue to get hammered, buy a burger, dance, cop off, and all by 9pm. If you don’t work opposite, well, maybe you’ll enjoying drinking and dancing with those that do.
The AtmosphereCentral London. The room is awash with short skirts and ties, laughter and spilt lager. You’d imagine the bar staff to serve you with storm clouds hovering over furrowed brows. But no. The young, smiley boys and girls weave their alcoholic, glassy magic with manners and efficiency. You shouldn’t be waiting for pints in Central London, and The Warwick ensures you don’t. Wooden tables and chairs, long bar, a sprinkling of flat-screen televisions – it’s the Starbucks of bar interiors. Perhaps there’s little originality in the furnishings, but there are no sickly colour schemes either.
A time will come when you’ll want to go dancing. At The Warwick, this will probably be about eight in the evening. Don’t worry. A magical kingdom of dancefloor (a room like that above, only without as many tables/chairs) is to be found downstairs. Along with a bloke in the toilet who expects money for staring at your back and putting you off the task in hand.
The FoodPerhaps, if you’re wandering about Piccadilly in the daytime and you’ve flown over from Tokyo, you may stop off at The Warwick for a cheap hotdog or burger. After work you may be tempted by the reasonably priced and exciting looking platters – Rustic, Mediterranean, or Fusion. But if you’re here on a Thurs/Fri/Sat evening, you’ll have other things on your mind. Like how to approach Nicky from Reprographics.
The DrinkAt the Warwick men drink lager because they’re men and ladies drink white wine because they’re ladies. A shame, perhaps, as the wine list is as long as it is reasonable and there’s a range of cocktails for your delectation. Be sure to get there early evening when you’ll get in on the incredible happy hours.
The Last WordYou’re young, you’ve got a goatee, your suit is shiny and you work in Central London. You’ll enjoy it at The Warwick with your office comrades. If you prefer your evening with a little more edge, however, it’s probably best to head elsewhere.
