The White Horse is a bustling traditional pub in the heart of the West End, where tourists and office workers drink together.

The Venue
Newburgh Street lies just behind Carnaby Street and is home not only to trendy boutiques and silver jewellers, but also to the ever-popular White Horse Pub. The pub itself is split over two floors, but most people tend to stand outside when the weather allows. The upstairs bar is tiny, although it can be pretty quiet as most people choose the liveliness of the ground floor. Another attraction of the ground floor are the huge TV screens with constant Sky Sports News. However, there’s much more to this pub than a couple of flat screens, so don’t worry if you’re not into sports.

The Atmosphere
The atmosphere changes from friendly tourist spot at lunchtime to friendly office worker hang out in the evenings. During the summer, The White Horse opens its doors and lets its punters spill out onto the cobbled streets. Beware of straying too close to the shops opposite – you will be told off! Inside, the bar staff are friendly and the atmosphere is happy and relaxed.

The Food
The food is average and pretty much what you would expect from a pub on the tourist trail. Choose from burgers and sandwiches that scream English pub grub but don’t go far enough in inspiring anybody other than tourists and office workers wanting to grab a quick bite to eat. Service is OK, although the lunchtime rush hour often leaves hungry diners waiting much longer than is necessary.

The Drink
Considering the location, this place isn’t too badly priced and the bar is well stocked. Prepare for a long wait at the bar most nights as local office workers descend in their droves and the disappointingly small bar doesn’t accommodate many bar staff.

The Last Word
A friendly pub in a great location.
