Fantastic Sunday roasts, a great range of real Ale and Larger, a huge covered and heated beer garden and a Sunday night Cribbage tournament what more could you want from a cosy little local five stars from me!!
The beer garden still remain my favorite in the area. However, the foods lost of its sparkle some little time ago. Microwaved apple crumble wasn't crunchy at all and smelly minced lamb was used for shepherd's pie. Good reputation, once they had, I wouldn't count the foods anymore.
This pub had a good reputation, so a reservation was made for a group of us to hire the rear nook & have a meal there. The placed looks charming, very cosy - but be aware that cosy = small! There is a decent variety of beer & wines & food, BUT... the landlord & staff are a moody, surly & unhelpful bunch who could have stepped right out of the pages of a Dickens book.
In the course of explaining why he would not honour our reservation, the Landlord said that his was a completely inappropriate pub for us, as the Saturday night clientèle were loud, drunk & aggressive, &
there could be bottles or glasses smashed & fights breaking out. Some recommendation!
The suspicion was voiced that perhaps the landlord felt that Drunken Yahoos were likely to spend more on a Saturday night than we were. That, however, is no excuse for not honouring a confirmed booking.
Having since read other reviews on this place, the problem bar staff appears as a recurring theme, and threatens to tarnish the standing of an establishment that once had a very good reputation.
The Windsor is one of the best pubs in West London. An architectural curiosity inside with a very cosy feel teamed with the good sized beer garden provides for all occasions.
The clientele are pretty well-to-do because of the location but are generally unpretentious. Staff are fun and friendly and the grub's pretty decent too.
All-in-all, pretty much my favourite pub in the area and always worth a rteurn visit.
The Windsor Castle is one of the more interesting and nicer places to drink in Notting Hill. However, though the interior has got some character, it is a bit dark inside and there's no music or TV for the real old school traditional boozer feel.
But the beer garden is really where The Windsor Castle comes into its element. It's pretty, and has a fair amount of seating, as well as having its own bar.
I'd recommend going out of your way to visit The Windsor Castle beer garden, but as the previous reviewer said, it does get busy on Friday and Saturday night, so either avoid those days if you want a seat or get there early.
For its location, the Windsor Castle is an excellent pub. It was very busy with an eclectic clientele but we still managed to find a seat in one of the three bars. Excellent food complements the usual Bass and Pride on tap along with the usual lagers and Guinness. No music or telly, just people enjoying their company. The beer garden at Windsor Castle is a lovely place to be in the summer (except on Friday and Saturday nights when it gets rammed). Nice.
