The ViewLondon Review
The Woolpack is busy from early evening right through to a traditional eleven o’clock finish. It’s the perfect place for after-work drinks and could easily be incorporated into a whistle stop tour of the upmarket party street that it’s situated on.
The Venue
The Woolpack is an attractive pub with tiled walls, booths for groups and a phenomenal outdoor space dotted with mirrors and SE1 road signs. Upstairs, there’s a very grand seated area sporting chandeliers and a painted ceiling depicting a religious scene.
The Atmosphere
This is a relaxed and informal after-work venue for business people and the locals of the London Bridge and Bermondsey areas. Its upstairs and outdoor space make it an attractive option for a party booking or a larger get together. The staff are friendly but it can get a little hectic and you might wait a while to be served or for the plates to be cleared after you’ve eaten.
The Food
The menu is instantly appealing and reasonably priced for the area; snacks and sides cost £3-£5, mains cost £8-£15. There’s also plenty of interesting choices for vegetarians, like the rich and creamy homemade pasta. Their sharing platter is a good option for the after-work grazers, saving plenty of attendees from an early departure.
The Drink
A brilliant beer selection with five lagers, two wheat beers, Guinness, cider and ale options, and more in bottles in a very well-stocked fridge. Pints cost around £3.70-£4.50.
They also have a really novel idea of ‘make your own’ cocktails, suggesting flavours and styles for you to choose from - great fun! For those procrastinating patrons who want someone else to make the choice, there’s a short and simple traditional cocktail menu featuring a deliciously old school and classy aperol spritz and a sophisticated espresso martini. For those feeling adventurous, marmite or cherry bakewell vodka shots may suffice.
The wine list is accessible, short and studded with staff recommendations. The cheapest wine by the glass is £4.20 and for that you’ll get a tempranillo, with a malbec costing a little more at £5.
The Last Word
With its outdoor area and prime location, The Woolpack is a good option for after-work fun. Just be prepared for a wait at the bar on busy evenings.
