The York is a traditional English pub, perfect as a drinking spot after work before jumping on the train home or moving onto somewhere more lively.

The Venue
Positioned just a stumble away from Angel tube station is this average-sized pub. You wouldn’t be far off the mark to describe the decor as ‘Ye Olde English’ thanks to the abundance of warm colours, wooden features and a fireplace. The bar itself dominates most of the pub with a seating area located at the front of the venue, extending around the sides of the bar. The York is set slightly back from the actual road, which allows for a good smoking area out the front, complete with tables and chairs.

The Atmosphere
As The York is a good sized pub that’s very easy to get to, there’s a pretty eclectic clientele. Don’t expect any particular theme to the place as they don’t play any particular music here, it is neither posh nor dingy, and it really is just for anyone who fancies a pint.

Be aware that, thanks to the proximity to the tube, this place can get really rammed – especially at peak pub times. If you can manage to get a table in the corner it’s a comfortable place for a drink, if not there isn’t much room to stand up and it can all get a bit awkward. However, the tables and chairs outside are perfect if it starts to get a little overrun during the summer, and around Christmas time it’s a very festive place, with the fire lit and a cauldron of mulled wine on top of the bar.

The Drink
The York is really well stocked with a large variety of beers in bottles and on tap – including Stella and Staropramen - with decent prices for the area. You can also get cups of tea, coffees and hot chocolate during the day – especially nice if the weather has turned.

The Last Word
The York may not be the ideal place for an amazing night out, but it’s perfect for a few drinks before your evening moves on. Essentially, it delivers all it needs to - a convenient location and decent drinks in pleasant surroundings.
