The ViewLondon Review
If the Tin Pan Alley Bar ever got tired of being just another drinking spot it could make a tidy little sideline as a Stars in their Eyes theme bar. Although the bar errs on the tacky side, it has potential.
The Venue
Upon entering Tin Pan Alley Bar, you'll be unsure whether you've just walked into a bar or a cabaret club it's so littered with silver and fairylights. When you're all the way in, the confusion really sets in as you ponder the eggshell blue of the walls and the white skirting around them and have to factor in the thought that you're now staring at a bar made out of giant radiator covers.
Sit down on one of the spaceage silver-legged stools at a high table and take a calming glance at the overdressed mirror behind the bar for a break from the manic layout and decor.
The Atmosphere
A strange crowd calls in at Tin Pan Alley Bar and there's no particularly ingratiating welcome. The makeshift look of it possibly inspires the untidy nature of the crowd and it closes itself off. A scribbled paper sign reads 'No cards', which throws a spanner in the works of anyone trying to milk out the last drops of a sickly looking overdraft. The staff are helpful and friendly though.
The Drink
The shelves offer a good range of spirits that appear to be even better with the added illusion of the mirror and below them an array of wine appears, all at fairly reasonable prices for the area. You’ll find Fosters, Carlsberg, Stella and Becks Vier on tap.
The Last Word
The Tin Pan Alley Bar sits in a location surrounded by interesting people and places but lacks the intrigue to draw them in. Has potential.
