One of my favorite Cocktail Bars with an insane selection of Rums! The staff knows how to make a proper drink, for the best experience don’t order from the menu just tell them what kind of drinks you like and let them conjure up a bespoke cocktail. Perfect for a cozy drink with friends, Try the Jerk chicken Burger with fries trust me you won’t be disappointed!
Has the decor in this place changed at all since it was Canvas back in 2003?? I don't think so....invest some money and sort it out. Dull music, dull crowd and disgusting toilets.
I came upon this bar the other weekend, and I don't understand some of the previous reviews. The bar was busy and there were no tables available, but we didn't mind standing at the bar. The bar staff were attentive, and most importantly fun, although there was a it of a wait for drinks we were kept entertained. We had a drink served in a giant flaming skull which was tasty, refreshing and strong! The food menu although being badly laid out, once explain made sense, we had one of the sharing platters which was tasty and it even came with free chips! The DJ was great, and overall we had an amazing night, we most definitely will be coming again.
A rude manager who uses his staff as cannon fodder. Spend your pounds elsewhere.
They are rubbish and rude!
We booked well in advance to come and join the rum club for a friend's birthday. When we arrived they were very rude and said that we couldn't join and that we should come back another date. They didn't even say sorry. So we left in protest never to return.
God Awful. I'm too old for this kind of "cool in the 90s" venue.
The first thing that hits you on descending into this place is the smell. Stale farts. Rank.
Music was what would have been a damn good mix had it been mixed on vinyl 15 years ago. The DJ had two controls: his iMac playlist "play" button, and the volume control, which he cranked up to 11.
The bar staff took forever to serve up 3 of the only beer they had. The way they preened you'd have thought they were auditioning for a remake of Cocktail.
It was -5° outside when we went, and yet going out for a smoke was still the highlight in a poor night's drinking.
And people queue to get in here? Very very odd.
I've never put a negative review online before but after last night's experience with the bar manager of this place I really feel I have to.
We were the first to arrive for a friend's b'day, the bar was almost empty, and we ordered one simple sharing platter. We were asked to pay for it up front.
45 minutes later when it hadn't arrived, but everyone else in the now-full bar had food, I complained.
I was told it would be 5 minutes. After an hour, I asked again, and said that I felt a full refund should be offered on the platter (our table of 15 was paying for round after of drink and other food).
We were eventually offered a 25% discount. When I said this wasn't enough, the waitress brought back this charming message from the manager: you can have your money back or you can have the food. You can't have both.
I went up to speak to the manager who clearly couldn't be bothered to come to our table to speak to us himself.
After a LOT of arguing and the intervention of more members of our party he said we could have 50% off as it was 'only an hour' that we had waited and that wasn't long enough to warrant a full refund.
In the midst of all this our food arrived, an hour and a half after we ordered it, and went cold.
We insisted on a full refund, he almost threw the money at us and told us that our entire party could get out of his bar as we were 'not the clientelle' he wanted.
Want kind of clientelle is that, hungry people?! Don't waste your money in here.
Nice bar, shame about the horrendous bar staff. They messed up my table reservation for my birthday but rather than dealing with it in a professional manner - the bar manager ran around for an hour and a half trying to get hold of their bookings girl, looking like he was about to cry like a little girl, as he could not handle taking on the responsibility of sorting the problem out himself. Not once did I get an apology, not once a smile or offer of a complimentary drink whilst I waited to see how the issue was going to be resolved.
Truly the most arrogant, rude, pathetic and inept bar staff I have ever experienced. How that place is still popular I don't know as whilst I was waiting, I saw them adopting the same arrogant, condescending attitude to all the other people they served as well.
I will never go back there again, unless the bar manager leaves or manages to actually grow a pair.
