The ViewLondon Review
Loved by locals, this no-fuss Victorian pub is perfect for a relaxed catch up with old friends. If you're heading to the Carling Academy Brixton, the Trinity Arms serves as a great pre-gig venue.
The Venue
Tucked away on a quiet leafy square off Acre Lane, this traditional pub is a welcome haven from the bustle of Brixton. The Trinity Arms is favourite with locals and those in the know, and is one of the few in the area to have resisted the inevitable wooden floorboards and leather sofa refurbishment.
This is an old-school pub, complete with technicolour carpets and velour bar stools. There's no music and the lighting is bright, so don't bring a first date here. Both the spacious patio out front and large garden in the back are a joy during summer evenings, though there are no heaters for diehard smokers.
The Atmosphere
Expect to see a mustachioed landlord in shirt and tie combo, who acts as an interesting addition. Rarely packed, the family run Trinity Arms is very much a local establishment with a friendly, relaxed ambience. When there’s a gig on at the nearby Carling Academy Brixton then you can expect to see a few more pre-giggers enjoying a couple of drinks before they head over to the club. However, it won’t be bursting at the seams like so many of the bars and pubs in the area as the cool kids seek to find refuge in a similarly trendy venue, so you’re a lot more likely to land yourself a seat.
The Food
Available daily from 3pm, food at the Trinity Arms is standard pub fare: roast chicken, steak and mushroom pie, rump steak and burgers - all served with chips. A concession to healthy eating has been made in the shape of Greek salad. Nothing imaginative about the menu, but then who can argue with reasonable prices and a free pint with every meal? Dishes can also be ordered as takeaway. Crisps, nuts and wasabi peas are available as bar snacks.
The Drink
This is a standard Youngs pub – hence the selection of Youngs Special, Charles Wells Bombardier, Waggledance and the usual array of lagers. There is a limited wine list, and the standard spirits and mixers. No cocktails.
The Last Word
When the rest of Brixton is heaving, you're guaranteed to find a seat and a friendly atmosphere at this unpretentious boozer.
