The ViewLondon Review

On the corner of Blandford Street and Broadstone Street, Tudor Rose is a short walk away from Marylebone High Street and offers a lively atmosphere for a quick drink. Just don’t organise your whole evening around the place.

The Venue
Tudor Rose is a fairly dark pub. Dark woods stretch across the floor and halfway up the walls, camouflaging the tables and chairs. The husband and wife duo that run the venue are of the old-school variety, and that’s reflected in the pub itself.

The open fireplace faces the bar and immediately makes the pub feel that little bit more homely. The seating out the front makes the place an appealing venue to those on the outside, and is a decent area during the summer months or for smokers lamenting the onset of winter.

The Atmosphere
Expect the usual suspects in a pub of this standing: old boys nursing a pint, loud men in suits catching a bevvie before heading back to work, the weird silent young fella sitting alone in the corner, with the odd impromptu business meeting taking place here and there during the day. It’s by no means dull. The huge array of personalities makes this a great venue to check out the lives of the people around you in a similar way that Nick Frost’s character does at the Winchester in Shaun of the Dead.

The Food
If you fancy a light lunch you’re in luck as you can get one here for just under a fiver, and including almost painfully British dishes – spam fritter, anyone?

The Drink
A modest selection of beers with Guinness, Fosters and John Smiths all accounted for and if you’re the pride of London then a pint of London Pride will be right up your street, and are reasonably priced at around the £3 mark. Those not adverse to a spot of alcohol will be pleased to hear that a glass of coca cola will make your wallet only £1 lighter – now that’s cheap!

The Last Word
You won’t meet the love of your life in here and you definitely won’t trek across London to spend your Saturday night here, but the drinks are cheap and the people interesting so if you’re in the area give it a go.
