The ViewLondon Review
Hip Soho hangouts come and go, but this refreshingly attitude-free bar has stayed the course. With its relaxed vibe and unassumingly cool interior, it’s easy to see why this Two Floors continues to pull in the crowds. The VenueTwo Floors is a spacious, modern bar situated on Kingly Street - a narrow lane that runs down the side of Liberty’s, parallel to Regent Street. It also has a rear entrance that backs onto the boutique stores of Kingly Court. The main room at ground level mixes comfy leather sofas and refectory-style wooden furniture with a long bar stretching along one side of the room. Dark green walls, parquet flooring and a smattering of artwork all help to make this large space feel pleasantly intimate. The darkly-lit basement bar is decorated in a 1950s Hawaiian style, complete with bamboo, banquettes and ukuleles, and has less atmosphere, but acts as a useful overflow at busy times. There’s also a small outdoor space at the rear with a handful of tables.
The AtmosphereWith its signless exterior, Two Floors proclaims its cool credentials from the outset. Yet for all that, this unerringly laid-back venue wears its fashionable image lightly. Relaxed vibrations seem to seep from the sofas in the window and spread through the whole bar. And although it attracts its fair share of Soho hipsters, it has an inclusive, welcoming feel that sets it apart. The bar staff are as young and coolly-clad as you’d expect, yet they’re also friendly and polite. A consistently excellent and eclectic music selection is the icing on the cake.
The FoodA limited bar food menu, served from 12pm to 4pm, offers ciabattas filled with the likes of chorizo and emmental or pesto and grilled peppers, or salads such as mozzarella, tomato and basil – all costing a reasonable £4.
The DrinkThis isn’t the place to come if you like a bar to have a good selection of draught ales. There’s only one beer on tap here, the Japanese Kirin Ichiban at £3.30 a pop. The bottled selection offers more of a choice – with a stellar international cast featuring Modelo, Brooklyn, St Peters Ale, Hoegarden and Savannah Dry cider, all for £3.20. There’s also a decent roster of cocktails, from mojitos to Manhattans, with a £6 price tag. A small selection of wines – not the bar’s strong point in terms of choice – can be had for around £4 a glass.
The Last WordWhether you want somewhere to go post-work, mid-shopping-spree or pre-club, Two Floors is one of the best bars to be found in this part of Soho.
