Have just taken my in-laws, come home and read these reviews. There seems to be a trend that suggests that in 2005/2006 the staff were great. From about 2008 onwards, not so. I'm afraid this is a trend based on fact. View? Brilliant. No question. But I did something I've almost never done and that's point blank refuse to pay the service charge. Let me save you boring details and make this short and sweet: my parents-in-law don't speak English. They felt better when they learned from my wife that I hadn't paid a tip. It didn't spoil the evening, but just be prepared and hopefully you'll get a different two clowns from the ones we had.
I tried to book drinks for 2 (for a 45 minute slot) on a saturday night and was told by a snotty woman in reservations that I would have to give her my credit card details. I have worked in customer facing roles for a long time and can understand sometimes you have an 'off day' so I let her attitude slide. When I asked why, she said it was just incase we didn't turn up she would charge us £10 per head. I thought this was a bit unnecessary as we were only there for such a short slot and I was definitely coming as I was booking the same day. Then I asked what do they do with my credit card details after I have visited - does she write it on a piece of paper and leave it hanging around, for example!? She then said that they have 'a very high tech system' that they insert it into and it saves the details, just in case I visit in the future it can bring up my card details again! Based on this fact and that this conversation was like getting blood out of a stone from a rude woman, made me lose all excitment I had for going here and all the romantic ideaology about looking at the fabulous views, getting dressed up and spending time with my boyfriend before we go for dinner in Mayfair and I leave for a 2 week trip.
This has also put me off entertaining colleagues here and I certainly won't be recommending it to anyone. The Managers that employ these imbeciles must realise that they are usually the first people customers come into contact with. They have no business accumen and aren't even decent enough to be polite to welcome customers and in turn make them come back...and spend more. I have been before and we had rude service but I was willing to give it another shot thinking it may have changed. Never again.
Also, don't bother trying to book Paramount at Centre Point either. Staff there are worse.
Beautiful setting but that is the best thing about it. Uninspiring interior and menu and the rudest staff I have ever come across in London. You find more charming staff in KFC . A complete waste of time. Oxo tower 100% better in every way.
Vertigo 42 has great views, no question about that, it's lovely to see the city all lit up.
Unfortunately the bar staff were poor and unfriendly and the drinks were over priced. However, it's perhaps best experienced as a one off occassion only. Worth the effort for the views.
I tried to get into the Vertigo 42 but the ditzy receptionist wouldn't let me. This really ruined my night but I had already had two bottles of red wine and sixteen pints of best bitter so I threw up all over the Vertigo 42 lobby.
Vertigo 42 is something different, simple but great. The best bit about it is the view which is wonderful even on a rainy day. The staff are friendly as are the mixed clientele who were clearly relaxed and happy. I would go there to Vertigo 42 again and again.
Just went to Vertigo 42 last weekend, had a fantastic time. I enjyoyed the first part of my birthday at Vertigo 42 enormously.
Wow - amazing view from Vertigo 42. They have very cool staff and the food was excellent. I had a most enjoyable evening at Vertigo 42.
Vertigo 42 is amazing and it will always hold a place dear in my heart particularly after he asked the question! What a setting, what a moment, it was everything a girl could hope for!
Vertigo 42 has amazing views and delicious cocktails. Expensive (£26 for two drinks!!!!) but well worth it. Can't wait to go again!
