Just came by the review here by chance, and I have to say I had a very similar experience, it's like the bouncers have taken the place over and the landlord has lost control, horrible place. Wouldn't go back if you paid me, which is a shame coz the band was pretty good.
This is a horrible place, can't believe people say good things about it, I have to agree with what people are saying about the obnoxious landlord and security, really nasty, plus the beer is seriously over priced.... do yourself a favour, go somewhere else.
Went to see my mates, Mariner's Children, on the Kick The Plug night a couple of weeks ago.
Was really busy, especially considering it was a Wednesday night, but I'm not surprised! Good food, nice beer and fit bar staff.
One of my new favorites.
this place is brilliant,I happened to be there last May, on a clubnight called Cellophonic Club and I had a smashing time, one of the best nights this year.
The dbooze is cheap, the staff is very friendly and the music was great. good vibe.I absolutely recomend it for a night out,Marco

Willmington Arms is one of the gems of Clerkenwell! Every time my wife and I have been back, the service we have received has been second to none. The Willmington Arms is a very popular pub and one that I have no hesitation recommending to all who would listen!
